Porsche builds a fine a fine sports car. The Evo is a factory re-worked four door sedan. Beyond the fact that they are both very fast cars, they are not at all alike.
I find the remark made in the original post about removing the wing and parking in certain neighborhoods to be provocative but without merit. The wing is an option, and the parts on an Evo are far more saleable than those from a Porsche.
Denise I hold an advanced degree, own a business, and about as far from a "Fast a Furious" type as you could ever hope to find. I just have to wonder what rational basis you have for you posts. Your comments do not speak well for you as a person, nor do they contain much truth.
I am only posting here to let you know how amusing I find both the originator of this thread and you Denise.

I've had two carrera 996 C2 1999 models from 2002 till 2004.. They were both similar just got them in two different countries.. I drove the two for about a total mileage of 100,000kms and i only drove the evo for about 6,000kms since i got it two months ago..
Here are my reflections:
- Porsche better at high speeds over 200 till 285 (my max reached)
- Evo outruns almost any cars on corners, round abouts, curves, exits, etc.. so the 911 hardly has any chance of keeping up
- Porsche experience is to keep control of car weight to grip the front tyres and keep them biting due to excessive understeer.. Lose it from the front and u're toast
- Evo experience is easier: more gas, more power, more grip, more curve.. Who cares if the rear oversteers, ur fronts are biting hard to track the car..
- I did race a 911 on streets, all speeds included.. First reaction of the 911 driver: 'it just feels like a bullet passing by' He gave up trying and only capable to catch me up after i reach 180km/hr.. that's where he rules
- Fun factor in evo is 1,000,000x
- Noise factor in evo sucks
- Evo is surely cheaper built.. 996 is more luxury
- Carrera hell of a maintenance cost
- 1% of your surrounding will accept the idea of the EVO, the rest will think u're a kid
Personally, I loved my porsches but at the end it was boring.. Am still new with the EVO and enjoying every bit of it. I would have felt teh same if it were the other way round.. two cars with two different experience..

but a C4 will much better,
or a turbo will be too,
most important, you got tons of replacement or performance part for 4g63!
just go to race any Evo on road cross or auto cross, you will be more convinced.

1999, 911 Carrera 2 owner here. It's been serving me as my only car which I only use on weekends. Live in NYC, use subway to work. For a while I've been eyeing on an Evo as a replacement.
Key factors I like on evo-
Performance
AWD (when it snows)
Trunk
Rear passenger space
Econobox stealth looks (when dewinged, which I intend- lets me park wherever, go to poor neighborhoods unnoticed)
Cons-
Need winter tires (when it snows, which I have no storage space living in NYC, may have to go all seasons)
Econobox looks / Chick appeal (definitely not as beautiful)
Suspension/Ride? (read it is rough, any evo owners driven a 911? I'm not sure until I try it. NYC potholes can be rough)
Depreciation (a New evo is definitely going to depreciate a whole lot more than my 99 C2, which I bought used last year, may consider buying a used Evo to fight depreciation)
Evo owners, convince me why I should get rid of the 911.

i say keep one porsche to kick around town and impress the ladies... or keep it in the garage to impress the ladies if you wanna go nuts around town all the time.
one reason... otto who's father owned the first 911 in america ever... used to say porsche is the best f the rest. now he says... mitsubishi is the best f the rest. a man that has raced cars his whole life. this is paraphrase from gt40.

Let me deal with your cons....
-first winter tires, you can get away with the all season tires, I would say get another set of dedicated rims for winter and have two sets, thats what i've done. You can get a low cost pair of great rims like, ROTA's which sell for $500 about for all 4 on group buys. As far as the tires the conti extreem are the best all seasons and rock in the winter. (love racing jeeps in the snow) Also they have very good prices.
-Econobox looks, dude I get more looks, get more people wanting to race, more people asking me what the hell it is, more people saying wow you put a lot of money in to it, and more girls wanting rides, that speaks for it self. Like i said get a pair of rims and use the stockers for the winter it will make the car look much better. It depends on money, i mean if you had a 911 seems like you have some money. There are many body kits out there you just have to look around. Look for the Evil Evo, my personal best looking evo out there. (do a search for that one)
-suspension isnt all that different from the 911 in my eyes, I've driven quite a few of them valet parking some distance and it seemed pretty rough. (before i got my evo). The evo seemed rough at first but once I broke it in it wasnt all that bad. Plus you can get adjustable shocks (softness/hardness) again if your willing to spend money and have a super soft setting, race setting, and another setting. Thats a great option.
-yeah you can buy a used evo and put the money in to making the cons non existant. This car will kick the **** out of a 911, and with the right mods shock a 911turbo.
- i'm sure the insurance is lower also lol
- also its 4 doors
- you can fit 5 comfortably
- I've had this car for almost 2 years, and ever time i get in it I feel like I'm test driving it for the first time again. (with the exception of not being scared of it lol)
Also, everytime I pass a fellow evo owner there is always that wave or light flash saying hi, Only car that comes close to that is the vet drivers. I highly recomend this bad boy, and if you buy it used and have extra money you can do some crazy **** with this car. 340whp is pretty easy to hit with a couple bolt ons and cams.
Enjoy! Hope this helps any questions pm me and i'll be willing to help you.
You should check out the new C6 corvette, or even better, the new Z06. As much as I love my Evo, I bow down to the new Z06. You seem like you got some cash, I suggest checking out the new Corvette if you aren't looking for practicality. The STi is a good car too!
