Cam gears aren't that expensive or hard to install are they? Why not get them?

Valvetrain wear comes from amount of lift, the steepness of the lobe ramps and the RPMs that you spin everything to. The faster and higher the valves open, the more wear you'll get on the valvetrain. HKS 264s, 272s and 280s all have the same lift from what's been posted on this board, so they should all wear the valvetrain about the same amount given comparable RPMs. Personally, I'd rather have high lift, short duration, steep lobes on a street car. That's the worst combo for valvetrain wear, but the best for combining power, low end torque, good idle and good emissions.

I have 264/264 combo and am extremely happy! I've never stalled and with a custom tune from Al (or any other vendor) the idle is perfect. The power delivery is noticable through the entire RPM range.

BTW, I've done some serious thinking about cam size of late, and I'd have to say you also need to consider where you are going to be reving. If you are planning to stay near the stock rev limit (or under 8,000RPM or so) I would say 264s are plenty. If you are going to rev higher, or are looking into a big turbo, you may want 272s or 280s.

With my car I hit the rev limiter at 7,800 and the car is still pulling hard.

Best of luck!

Looking to get straight 264s with no cam gears. Then a custom TT or at least mail-in flash that I can fine tune with SAFC.

Take care,

There are reports of HP gains through the RPM range with 272's vs 264's.... And then the 272'totally leave the 264's in the dust above 5K....

If your state uses the OBD II plug-in as it's form of testing, you can get any cams made and it will pass inspection. With this testing method, all they do is check the the ecu for codes (check engine light), no sniffer test or even a visual inspection(in PA at least).

Does anyone have a link to a 272/272 cams set at 0 0? I have been searching this board for hours and I Can't find them and if I do the link is dead.... I remember seeing a yellow one with HKS cam gears a while back but can't find that either.
