Angry mitsu not backing out

for everyone out there stupid enough to think mitsu is leaving the north america are here you go, a email from corporate

To Mitsubishi Motors Dealers:

As we reported to you yesterday, the Wall Street Journal posted an online
story that Mitsubishi Motors Corporation in Japan was "quietly" seeking
buyers for its U.S. operations. Though incorrect, this ran in today's hard
copy newspaper.

Upon the posting of the story yesterday, many reporters called MMNA. MMNA
took the opportunity to firmly deny that Mitsubishi Motors has any plans to
sell their U.S. sales or plant operations.

The result was broad pick up of the story today across the country, but
with nearly every story leading with a headline such as "Mitsubishi
Reaffirms Commitment to the U.S. Market." Our denial was frequently in the
first paragraph. No one agreed with the WSJ story. Though it was
unfortunate the WSJ chose to run this (we ultimately can't prevent them
from doing so, despite calls to the reporter to argue our position), the
resulting coverage ended up reaffirming our commitment to the U.S. market.

For customers who call or ask, below is an excerpt from Mitsubishi Motors
Corporation's statement issued yesterday in Japan in response to this,
which reaffirms Mitsubishi Motors is here to stay.

"As announced on January 28, the U.S. is a very important market for the
revitalization of MMC and thus the Company has no intentions to exit this
market. Additionally, the Company has never pursued the possibility of
exiting the U.S. market with potential third parties."

Thank you,

Mitsubishi Motors North America

yeh, if they are trying to exit out, they'll try to do it as quiet as possible without plunging their stock share to the ground. This letter makes sense, it maybe not true, or PR's diversion strategy but with the incoming european competition in us shortly, i'll be suprised if they're not going to sell the company or the majority share to GM.

Gm's already designing the cars for Misubishi anyway.

where did you hear that from? chysler and mitsu designed all of their current models including the new eclipse and truck together, not gm. you need to learn a lil bit about the history of mitsu before you start tell others about it.

A corporations 1st and foremost responsibility is to its stockholders. They are who own the company. MMNA PR dept is not going to say they are leaving and have everyone sell their stock. That will hurt their stockholders and hurt the company's sales price when a buyer is ready to purchase. Don't believe what you read in ads and something put out by a company's PR dept. PR is short for "spin," FYI.

my thoughts exactly. if the word got out that there will be major revamp with the company, not for good, like mergers, the stock ususally goes down rapidly.

I think if Mitsu were to sell there US base Chrysler would be the most likely purchaser. As stated above, Mitsu and Chrysler have been working together. It makes no sense for a major car manufacturer to pull out of a market as large as the US. They have had financial troubles in the past, but almost every car company has. Don't coun't them out just yet...

Mistu needs north america. The mitsubishi brand is just as tainted in japan as it is here, maybe more so. Although the letter might be a strategy ploy, it does make some sense. Selling cars in NA is a must if they want to fully revitalize their company.

those who wonder why i keep saying GM designs the cars, the new mitsu truck as well as the eclipse is designed by the GM design team, not chrysler.

Chrysler has one of the major stock share in Mitsubishi motors, however, they backed out on purchasing and financing mitsubishi when the sales were falling. There are no concrete evidence that chrysler will purchase the mitsu, so my guess is it's not for sale, and it's either going to go in debt, or get bought by ford of General motors... maybe chrysler...

i doubt mist will sell to a thrid party in the US market. US is a big market for automobile, almost every household memeber 18/over own a cars in the US. Compare to other country, people just use public transportation..... that's my 2 cent

If anyone will buy Mits, it will be chrysler IMHO. GM has nothing to do with Mitsu. Chrysler has WAYYYYYYYYYY too much money wrapped up in R and D with Mitsu on the new Lancer/Neon platform, the SMART car platform, and the truck now. Mitsu will be OK...as long as the Eclipse can spike sales and give a decent company image. And do it long enough to get the newer version of the Oulander, Endeavor, and down the road the new galant out they'll be OK.
