dynamat under the car for exhaust droning?
I have a 2004 EVO RS which came with absolutely no sound deadening in it. I ended up putting dynomat Extreme in the trunk to basically cover the whole bottom pan and a bit along where the trunk latch is.
It helped a bit, but I think the best way would be to do the floorboard as well since the majority of exhaust/engine drone comes from there.
It wouldn't be cheap though. Good luck if you decide to do it.

I would think that applying it that close to the exhaust would not be good. It's like a rubber material with foil over it. It's pretty gooey all by itself so get it hot and who knows what would happen. You could always try a small piece and give it a shot just to test adhesion. You'd really have to clean off the area where you were going to apply it though.
Dynamat actually suggests that heat will help the adhesion process when applying. i can't say that being near the exhaust would help that much & a bulk pack of the Extreme is like $200!!! the evo is just a thin metal car. there is not much you can do. you can try it in a little area & see if that helps, or you may have to run dynamat the entire length of the exhaust on the inside of the cabin.

another way is to pull out all of the carpet and seats and cover everything, and have it rhino lined then replace everything. works really well! or you couls leave out the carpet then when your floor gets dirty hit it with a wet sponge.
low frequencies are omnidirectional, to keep it out, you'll need to do alot of different types of sound deadening. dynamat is just mass loading, it does help, but only for higher frequencies, as is reduces/eliminates resonation. to kill the lower notes, you'll need a filler type of sound deadening, like fiberglas, or carpet padding, the thicker the better. I've sound deadened my past 5 cars, and i've used all different methods. almost all of them require adding weight to the car.
i haven't started on the evo yet... when i do, I can let you guys know what worked best on my car.
short answer, putting just once peice of dynamat by the exhaust, or running it down the center... will do nothing but make the car heavier. it's gotta be a total strategy...

... I say buy a better exhaust, or crank up the radio... but if you decide to do it, you can check at stereo shops and see if they have some scraps, I got all mine for free but it is in weird shapes
Well I just installed a hks hi power catback and my car rattles too, but when i took it to the shop that installed it for me they put it up on the left and had my car idling, and they noticed it was coming from the gas tank shield. They advised that I should put some Dynamat on it. But i didnt, because I dont like the idea of having dynomat on the bottom of my car. Seems like a cover up fix to me.
