However, the EVO is not setup for average street driving, it's more track ready than just about anything out there.

Take a ride in my 325i with the sport suspension and you'll see how the EVO is "stiff" and loud.
It's not just a "a little bumpy at times". That's the understatement of the automobile world.
It's like saying, "the Pontiac Aztek is slightly unattractive."

BMW proves that. And, from what I'm reading so does the MR EVO and the GTA EVO, as well as the STi.
First of all the 325 is a decent handling car, but nothing compared to an Sti or Evo. So, it's not a fair comparison for ride harsness vs handling. A better comparison would be the M3 vs Sti or Evo. I've spent alot of time in both the M3 and the MR and the ride harshness is about the same. The regular Evo is definetly harsher than the MR or M3.

My 325i has the sport package which is actually stiffer than the stock setup.
Also, 2002 328? You're mistaken. A 328 would put that car back quite a few years, perhaps it's a 1999 which you bought in 2002?

Anyway, the sport package 325i has an awesome suspension. It's a slow car due to it's modest 187hp. But, the handling is worthy of at least 300hp with no problems.
The point of BMW comparison is that BMW is one of the very few companies that can manage to create a suspension that is at the same time grippy, tight, controlled while giving a smooth, quiet, and compliant ride.
There have actually been some who think the BMW "sport" suspension is too harsh. I don't understand that one.

Actually, I think the suspension is something to bust a nut over. Now, the 325i is slow but that's not what we're talking about.

For winter I put on Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S (that was a lot of typing), which have relatively soft sidewalls. I checked my tire pressures the other day, 31f/30r. That said I don't think the tires softened up the ride very much, if at all.

Now are you really going to let tires make you chose a 325i over an Evo. I commute every day. I chose the Evo. Rough ride sometimes, who cares. I'm driving an Evo.

Funny how we can get coil-overs that make the Evo supension even stiffer, but not a GT suspension.
Anyone know where I can have custom springs made? Progressive springs with softer initiation and stock-stiff when you lean into a curve.

I couldn't resist but say something. For those comments such as "I think the evo is not bumpy" and "go drive something else" are plain stupid. It's all up to each individual whether it's too bumpy to him or not, and the guy is not bashing the car at all. He's just asking how to make it ride better with a little bit performance compromise since he doesn't go to track. So these kinds of unconstructive comments why say at all? Now for those who tried different tires and gave feedback and those who suggest suspension setup, way to go.

I'm actually thinking about similar things and make the ride a little better. MR can ride better without sacrificing performance shows that evo8 suspension is not perfect. I have a s2k while it handle very well and much flatter in corners than evo it absorbs bumps a little better too, and the stock s02 is considered to be more sticky than s03 and probably just a bit shy of advan. So I definitely consider suspension mod down the road. Also I read from another thread that other tires maybe KDS? have softer sidewalls but still have comparable performance. So that might help long trips. After my set is gone I'll give them a try.

I own and EVO and my wife has the 330xi sport. The EVO is a little rougher than the BMW, but not by a huge margin. I was ready to take the EVO back after the first cold night driving on the highway, but after about 200-300 miles it seemed to settle in. I drive the EVO every day and love it. The BMW sport suspension ride is by no means plush. Go ride in an Acura TL and you'll believe me. The BMW handles well, but not even on the same league as the EVO. Honestly I don not feel the ride of the BMW is that much softer. Just my 2cents after owning both for about 10,000 miles

i don't mind it. i guess it's an aquired taste - i enjoy being able to feel the car and the road, rather than have it muffled by cushy suspension and nice riding tires. i like the feedback my evo gives me. even on long drives.

Thanks.
You are absolutly correct, that is what I meant.
I am a car enthusiast and enjoy various automobiles. The EVO is awesome.
One other scenario is to get a used EVO and keep the BMW for daily driving.
Maybe. I don't like having 2 cars just for me though. I enjoy motorcycling as well, so having 2 cars could end up not working too well and just become a waste.
I don't want a car to sit in the garage, I want to drive it.
