Evo's not a drag car?

I don't mean to start a heated debate or make anybody mad but I was wondering why so many people here don't consider the evo a drag car? I personally don't know of any car that was drawn up to be drag specific. I love curves as much as the next guy but autocross tracks are few and far between so the dragstrip is the next best thing (being that they are everywhere and the standard for automotive testing) to go out on a fri. nite and play. Actually one of the things I love most about the evo is that it can do just about anything drag, autocross, rally and it usually does it very well. Any car that can pull hi 9's to mid 10's that is fairly new to the states is definately a capable drag car not to mention being able to put between 2 and 4 grand to pull low 12's to mid to hi 11s is not anything to be ashamed of. The way some of you talk you would wonder if you even have evos because you don't seem to know the potential of your cars. Not trying to start anything just thought it should be said.

IMHO the evo rocks for dragstrip use. These cars have such potential for big power with alot of stock parts. Does't take much modification to put 90% of the streetcars at the dragstrip to shame on any given friday night.

I just can't get excited about driving for 12 seconds. There are lots of road racetracks in California where you can drive for hours.

All you need is a good clutch, ACT, Exedy, RPS, etc. In addition to a beefed up tranny and transfer case from TRE and/or Shepherd racing, you'll have an invincible driveline.

I have fun running my car. At the dragstrip of course. I would've liked to have a shot at the SCCA course but they closed the naval air strip where it's been held.

EVO will destroy just about any car on the back roads. That's what its roots are from. It just happens to haul butt down the drag strip too.....

theres no doubt the evo was designed to go fast around corners on changing surfaces (a la rally and ACD), but to do well in rally you also need to be able to accelerate off the turns and down the straights, and the evo seems to do that very, very well. but i didnt get the car for its 1/4 mile time, i got it for its handling capabilities. the straight-line speed is just an added plus

what can i say? the evo is just plain sick

Some of us like the EVO because of its rally roots and like to keep it that way. The idea that it is not a drag car probably stems from the fact that it is designed to be a rally car and that drag racing originated from (usually) V8 muscle cars.

People get an idea in their head that keeps them from thinking outside of the box, and "rules" get laid out.

I have my own opinions on the matter, but they are merely opinions. I think the car was not designed for drag racing, therefore it shouldn't be forced to do it. I also think that drag racing is a big pissing contest that often gets taken too seriously.

If you like it, however, then go for it!
