High temp HID question
okay, been lookin around the forum and wanted to get an idea from you guys about the high temp HIDs. I got stock HIDS (which I know come with the 4100-4300K bulbs) and I also realize that the higher the color temp, the lower the light output. My question is: How bad are the 8000k bulbs REALLY? I know alot of people are suggesting not to go over 6000k and I've seen alot of pics posted here with some of those setups. I do like em, but I just want to get an idea how the higher temps actually look in comparison to the lower temps. Anybody have 8000k that can post a pic? Is the light output really that much less, as to be considered a serious safety issue or is it just "less"....not too worried about ticketing, but I don't want to endanger mine or somebody else's life with poor visibility, so are those 8000k in the range where it may be dangerous to drive?
Anyway, just got the EVO, so I'm a noob here (but by no means new to the custom import scene...moved from the Honda world). Be gentle! LOL!

I have 9000k HID kit and I think it's marvelous, I will never go to non-HID ever again. I think the light output is just fine, and super-bright. People don't like them usually because of their brightness, so I dont know anything about any of the HID kits being a "low output" lightsource. Unless stock HID kits are different from aftermarket ones? I can shoot up a picture later tonight if you'd like. I don't think 8000k will be not bright enough at all, it might be perfect.

Thanks! Yeah a pic would be awesome if you could. As for "low output", from what I understand, the higher you go in kelvins (temp range) the more bluish-purplish you get but the light output (lumens) actually goes down. But I still think (not for sure) that it is still higher than regular halogens.
Anyway, any other takes on the 8000k and up HID bulb replacements?
Thanks again.

Aftermarket HID systems tend to "over score" the Kelvin rating. They toss out 8000K and 10000K numbers, and some consumers think it's better since it has a higher K rating. I have 5,800K bulbs installed in my car. They are purple. I've seen regular Lancer members with aftermarket 8000-10000K HIDs installed. Mine are more purple than theirs.
Not better or worse, some companies just use a different scale of K. Check out www.europeanautosport.com for bulbs. I have some pics in my registry too.
