WRX OR EVO?????? any info is appreciated
Whether one is safer than the other is complete in the hands of the driver. If you drive irresponsibly, you can wreck a Civic as easily as a WRX or Evo.
If you're unfamiliar with stickshift, then get the WRX unless you can afford a new clutch every few months. Otherwise, the Evo will reward you with much better performance and controllability.
I don't agree that the Evo is less dependable than the WRX. I have had no problems in the past 20000 miles, and most of the other local Evo owners have experienced nothing wrong. The aforementioned clutch and drivetrain is indeed weaker in the Evo, but the stronger Engine and tranny more than make up for it. I have heard plenty of blown piston rings and synchronizers in WRXs.

As far as WRX/EVO daily drivers...get the EVO, its fine...i commute with mine every day, the only thing I'd do differently is buy 2 EVOs...one for sunny days and one for nasty weather...that way i could keep one sparkly with the stock tires and one could be my winter monster, with snows. as for now, i'm couting the time till i can switch off the snows and back to the performance tires.
I also think the EVO teaches you to be a better driver, especially with up/down shifting. I found it a bit hard at first to hit the exact spot for a rev-matched downshift, or a perfect upshift...I don't have that problem now and I can drive any one of my friends' cars as well or better than them.
My buddy has a WRX, and its a really great car...safe, lots of features, decent looks, decent power...but it lacks excitement, i think...drive the two, feel the shifting action, the way the EVO delivers power...its addicting

haha i will drive safely don't worry. i already feel very guilty taking 30k from my dad but i'd feel even worse if he paid for my insurance after i crash.
That would make me like the guy in my church who went to massbay community college who's parents pay 800 a month for insurance for their massbay son. i don't want to be like that kid (sry to those who attended massbay and those whom i offended)

Check the crash test results at www.safercar.org and www.iihs.org . The subarus are always at the top of their class in side impact. Also the WRX is easier to live with on a daily basis and the suspension is magical in the sense that it works well on pavement and on rougher roads. I have two cars so the Evo is not a bad occasional driver, but for every day the WRX is the best of both worlds. Maintenance is also a lot cheaper. If you go to the dealer to get a 4 wheel brake job, it will cost $900... and a lot of that is in the high spec parts required to do the job, not the labor so you can't save much by going outside the dealer to do the work.
I had a WRX and it was a real turd. The car was in the shop for a month worth of work time. The transmission was replaced TWICE for bad synchros and gears! I am NOT a teenager and did NOT drive the car hard. As I have stated before in other posts most of my drive time was highway and almost all of it was back and forth to work.
The second time I had the transmission repaired I drove it directly from the Subaru dealer to the Mitsu dealer to trade it in. The third time the transmission was repaired on the car was immediately after I had traded the car. The new owner was literally driving off the lot and heading toward the Interstate when it grenaded! I know this because the Subaru rep called me and told me the situation!
I think the Subaru dealership that told the owner of this thread the Evo's had tranny problems was seriously mistaking it for his/her own product. If you follow the Subby forums you will clearly see the numerous WRX owners that had transmission problems with dealers and Subaru not wanting to warranty them anymore...
As for the Evo and tranny problems... I think you will find people going through CLUTCHES frequently but NOT trannies.

maybe you got a lemon? i've only heard of people replacing their trannies only cause they launched it at the dragstrip or launches it at high RPMs.
yeah, and i agree with that clutch problem that you pointed out. and some other part i forget waht its called... the something BOX.
anyways, i'll decide in a couple of weeks or so
Well instead of blowing a new thread ill just post here.
Just wanted to say EVO's rock, but the one major advantage in my opinion with the STI is it looks like your everday WRX (impreza) to the untrained eye. This grabs less attention for cops and once again for the untrained eye, brings less attention for more trouble.
still would want a evo over the sti though.

For what it's worth... I never performed high RPM launches with my WRX and it still fell apart. If you are going to get a subby I would try the STi over the WRX. They seem to be having better luck with that tranny...
i finally woke up and stopped dicking around in school... last year i got straight C's and one D(in honors math) as a final grade. As a korean, i am embarassed to have gotten such a poop grade in math.
But this year's report card has a few more A's than last year. lol
