new or used...
im planing on getting an evo around september. what i dont know what i want to do is get a brand new 05 or maybe even 06 evo or just a used 04 or so? im goin to be living at home with no expensices for about 5 years so a car payment wont be too bad even if around 500 a month. my girl is ripping me apart saying how im goin to be in debt my first year out and all that good ****. just wondering what i should do.
If you can afford new go for it. You just don't know what the previous owner did to the car before you got it. Even if the car seems stock doesn't mine it always was. I did buy mine used and got lucky. It came with the whole exhaust done, intake and blowoff valve changed. So I knew what was done to it. If you do go used to save the money get it inspected and check the cars history has much as possible. I have seen some horror stories about people getting used evos so be careful. Good luck
23k should get you a nice used 03. Just get it inspected and check the with dealer to make sure the warrenty hasn't been voided. If it is someone on here you buy from check there old posts that will tell you a lot about what problems or mods they have or had. Good luck in your searchs.
personally, i would try to find a new 04 - with the 05s being out, the dealers will be giving good deals to get rid of their 04s.
i bought a new 03 in 04 and got a pretty good deal (i've heard of others getting better deals than i did, but whatever).

Well I have not decided what route to take but I know for sure that finding a brand new 04 this time next year is slim to none, nothing I would count on... Now it is a matter of what to buy, a new IX RS or used, I like the idea of NO MILES... it means I do not need to worry. I just wish I knew what options could be added to the RS, can you at leaste get one with A/C???

Just because it's new doesn't mean that it's perfect. Some places forget to put in fluids, some cars have bad diffs, etc. How good is your lot? If you're buying used, buying from someone on here may or may not be a good idea. People here like to modify and race their cars a lot. Are you comfortable knowing someone has modded or raced the car? It depends on how well you trust them and how the car feels when you drive it.
I think an Evo guru should chime in here (pssst...MalibuJack).

BTW buying new doesnt exactly mean it wasnt beat on! A couple of my buddys work at a nearby subby dealership. They tell me stories all the time how they, and other people that work their constantly take the new sti's out and launch them, powershift, donuts, etc.
don't know if I would buy this type of car used.
I don't launch or race my car, but I do do open track events and drive aggressively. that said, I would NOT want to be the second owner of my STI. my car in particular hasn't been abused, but people buy cars like these to DRIVE them...
hitting boost and high RPM's often is not exactly conducive to reliability, even if the car can "handle" it without immediately exploding.

I plan on spirited driving and minor mods, that is pretty much it. I plan on taking VERY good care of it but when it comes to the highway and other chances I will get on it when I can... I like the idea of a brand new car... it is alot more reassuring however it would be an RS... it is what I can afford.
