2003 or 2004
2003 or 2004
I was wondering what the smarter move would be buying a used EVO. I know the 2003 was the first year in the U.S. that usually means first year bugs and I was wondering how much wiser it is to go with a 2004 vs. a 2003. What were some problems with the 03's and how much better were the 04's?
I put the rock chip protectors on my 03 for 15 bucks, and the air filter is also a similarly retrofitable product if you want it. The main thing you should look at is condition. Also 04's were available with the SS&L package which is sunroof, infinity audio, and leather, which was not available on the 03. The 03's can have a sunroof but no audio package or leather. Leather interior also gets you rear headrests.
For this one, car to car variance will be a much bigger factor than model year. You'll want to find one with a responsible and trustworthy former owner. You maybe not get all the options you want when buying a used car, but you can sure save a pile of dough. I would focus on finding a car that has been properly maintained and is in the mileage range your looking for, rather than trying to target an 04 or 03 specifically.
