shifting my MR from 5th to 6th
Thanks for all the responses to my first post on buying my MR. I have a question for MR owners. I notice, especially when its cold that my car is quite difficult to shift from 5th to 6th gear. If I dont push fairly hard to the right while shifting I end up back in 4th gear. It isnt a problem now during break in as my revs arent up but I worry about it in the future. Do you think this is something associated with the cold or newness of the vehicle?? I have had two bmw cooper s models with six speeds and dont remember having this happen with them. Thanks....Phil
Kronik,
I am not sure if it changes after warming up. I only get on the freeway for two miles on the way to work so it is basically one shift into 6th gear. I will do some driving today and see if it inproves as the car warms up. Thanks...Phil

I dont got the six speed, but when the cars cold, especially in this weather, makes the shifting very hard/notchy until it warms up. I would take it for a decent ride and , and then try shifting into 6th, im sure it will be fine then.
not really a function of temperature, it's not difficulty engaging; more missing the gate due to the spring tension. mine was like that for a while during breakin. don't even notice it now. It's not like a 3-4 upshift where it falls into the gate. It will always require some side pressure due to the centering spring in the shifter base. After a thousand miles or so it softens up a bit, and you adapt and won't even notice it. I'm at 8500 now and it's like second nature.

mine is the 1990 sapphire cosworth. 4door, motorsport shell, with a 2liter YBG cosworth engine, 200 cooper ringed block, 4x4 head, burton cams, T34 escort cosworth "homologation" turbo, 5.5" Grp A downpipe to 3" exhaust, no muffler, hf cat at the very back. running an ahmed bayjoo chip good for about 300hp in current tune. Will be about 350+ next year once I install autronic and get more comfortable with the car. Converted to rwd to run the USA gravel rally series in 2wd open class.
