Minor mods, the EVO and STi.
Minor mods, the EVO and STi.
I plan on going no deeper into mods than minor stuff, Exhaust, Intake, EBC, BOV, DP blah blah blah. I hear the EVO responds to mods very well, alot better than the STi but how well? When it comes to BPU Supras I understand that it is another story but what kind of gains should I expect from the basic mods? What would you suggest as some must have stuff that will keep my wallet in tact, I plan on keeping the car as long as I can so doing stuff over time is not out of the question but I won't go to any extremes... I just plan on keeping it simple and nothing that will toy with my reliability. Thanks
intake, downpipe, cat delete, exhaust, bov, boost controller, fuel pump, and an ecu reflash should net u a little over 300whp i beleive.
If you get cams, you'll be near the 330whp range.

TBE + UTEC + Tuning on STi gets +/- 300awhp +/- 315ft/lb
EVO will obviously be more mod friendly right now since its been out so long and the STi engine has only been out 2 years. Once the STi engine has been out for a while then it will be a lot more even as tuning/mod companies catch up.

Intakes don't do A LOT for the Evo with low mods, however.. With the mods in my sig, I haven't stopped smiling (except the other day when the temp changed and I had to adjust the MBC...) Also, think of your location, for example: COBB is located about 15 min from my house, if I REALLY wanted to be serious about modding, I'd have got an STi... Get the idea?
if you are going to stop at exhaust & engine management, "I" would get the STI. The EVO has the greater power potential, in that you can do cams and cam gears (for relatively little $$) to get another 30-40hp. You cant really do those mods in the STI because of the cost and time it would take to do it.
With a capable driver the STI w/turbo back exhaust & reflash=12.5-12.8 1/4 mile
EVO w/turbo back & reflash, engine management=12.5-12.8 1/4 mile
For daily driving the STI is going to feel faster because of the bigger displacement & torque, but on the topend of the RPMs, the EVO will be superior.
So, as far as simple bolt-ons go, without going bigger turbo & injectors.....get the EVO.

Either one would be descent with basic bolt-ons...the question is which looks better in your opinion...I was sold on the EVO over the STi because of looks. Performance for both cars is awesome for a stock vehicle...I just think the STi is ugly...

To get similar numbers on an evo:
TBE-$700
Flash-$200
Fuel Pump-$90
MBC-$90
Considering the STi starts out with "30" more Hp than the Evo and has similar performance, the fact that you can match and beat its WHP with similar mods on both speaks a lot of the Evo's love for minor mods
