You don't know me and you don't know my work, nor do you know what I do. You have absolutely no idea why I charge what I do. I am not going to start flaming on this thread, but feel free to email me before saying "your insane"!

Personally I don't know why people don't charge more for this job. It is very obvious that this job can be done by yourself, on your driveway, probably in a few hours. And it may be as professional looking an install as mine. I pride myself on being a professional and by presenting my work and my shop in as professional a manner as possible.

That's why I charge what I do. And I have many happy customers.

well this is how the install went. i made an appointment for 9:00am on friday. i get there at 9 and no one is their, so i wait till 9:55 still no one. i leave and then call around 10:05 and some one picks up, the guy said he worked on a car till 4 in the morning the other night and just woke up. "that not my problem" so i drop my car off arounf 11:30am he promises it will be done at 2:30. ok i get their and he says he's not done and "to be safe" come back around 4:30 but i start work at 4 but i called and said i would be a half hour late, ok no problem. i get dropped off at 4:30 and guess what he's still not done, so i'm waiting till about 5:15 in the waiting room and no ones coming out so i go through their employees only door to see what the **** is going on. he tells me my a/f gauge is broke i said no it's not. so he figures out it not. well then one of their workers drop me of at work cuz i'm an hour or so late, and say they'll drop the car of at my work in probably 10-15min. well they dropped to car of at 7:30 completed.

ok so car in- 11:30 car out- 7:30 = 8 hoooouuuurrrrssss
and no their were no other cars in the shop being worked on.

so after all that i get in my car after work, everything looks good and secure, but to my surprise the gauges are out of line. yayyyy

5 hours sounds about right. At anywhere between $50-$75 an hour labor rate.

Well, I'm not a professional mechanic nor do I own a shop. But I charge a $100.00 an hour to do work on the side with a minimum of 2 hours. I would bid this job for 8 hours, because of what's involved and the fact that the installation has to not only "look" good, but perform as advertised. The main reason for me charging a $100.00 an hour with a 2 hour minimum is that, I consider that a fair price for my time and skill set. Also, I stand behind my work, so if that gauge is/was broke during my install I'd replace it out of my own pocket. As it stands now, I turn work away, because I do this only on the weekend as a hobby, and sometimes no amount of money will compensate me for my time.

Hopefully, your install works out well.

peace

This is not a five hour job at all. Total rip off. I would do all the installs myself and save 250, but I guess it's too late now.
