Were to get cruise control??

Like I said, there are no technical limitations to putting a cruise control on a manual equipped car. The car can't shift but usually you have enough torque to hold speed up hills and you car is not going to buck when you're at 3000 rpm anyway. I have never experienced bucking when using cruise on my evo.
The STi has a electronic throttle so the cruise is basically software. But like I said before the reasons for no cruise is that no one has historically wanted it, not any technical reason.

I can see how it would have trouble with the turbo lag and such, how it could overshoot it's desired speed, but there's so many turbo cars out there with cruise. Is the drive-by-wire the key?
NO. As I've said twice, it works fine on my evo. There is zero problem other than mitsubishi chose not to offer it. That's it. It MIGHT be a problem if you're setting your cruise at 60 mph while in third gear, but most cruise controls won't let you set cruise past a certain rpm.
Cruise control algorithms are very sophisticated now. Basically they use calculus to map acceleration to speed and rarely do they overshoot. The cruise control on my car works as good as any factory system, there's enough engine braking that once you reach the desired speed, lifting the throttle will hold that speed without overshooting.
In europe and japan, not many people use cruise. That's where the evo's been sold until 2003 and the volumes in the US probably don't justify adding cruise. It's a pain to add from a logistics standpoint, where minimizing market to market variation is the goal, and honestly, who's not buying an evo because it doesn't have cruise?
Drive by wire makes it easier to implement cruise since all the hardware is already there, having a throttle cable complicates the implementation of cruise but there is no technical reason why it won't work on an evo. In the end, making the changes to the car probably didn't justify the cost to mitsubishi.

That is the only feature that I direly miss on the Evo! It is my daily driver. The STI was just too "soft" a car compared to the Evo, so I didn't even consider it for long.

Thanks alot for all the help..I will check around here and see if anyone can add cruise to his car...Thanks again for responding!!!!

It's pretty much worthless up most hills because a few psi is needed in 5th gear to keep the car at a constant speed. I wonder if I using a different vacuum source would help. Maybe the cruise unit isn't made to see boost so it freeks out? Anybody know about these things?
Works great in my Dodge.
Or
you could try using a turbo inlet vacuum source. I don't know what kind of vacuum you'd get, especially with a free flowing turbo intake.
Some cars come with vacuum resovoirs. Those early Ford Exploders had one, just look around a junkyard. Mine is a 1 QT Nalgene vacuum bottle.

Could you post some pics of the controls and the underhood?
I'm going to be taking a trip to FL in July and want to take the Evo, but I think I'll need some cruise for that. Otherwise I might have to let someone else drive a while....and that ain't gonna happen...

rostra, they're oem for gm and a few others, i'd give it an 8-10, on resuming on hills, it hunts a little but again on big hills, you're normally having fun with the evo

Overall, i'd get it again.

and an idiots guide...

jeesh, that control box looks bigger on your car than on their website.
It fit in that spot without too much trouble, and without eliminating something else?
thanks for the pics!

There are some other threads about cruise control... here is one that has useful information: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...cruise+control
