Do you buy the evo 9 GSR or MR knowing you will mod the car....

So in deciding between the GSR 9 or the MR 9.
What do you guys think is a smarter move if you are going to replace most of the parts with aftermarket anyways.

IE. Suspension/Performance etc...

With that in mind is it worth paying the extra money for an MR or is it better to get the GSR and put the money towards some nice mods.

I want to hear some personal experiences with this.

Any of you regret paying more for an MR and then changing out most of its "specialty" items?

Now i realize the obvious things like the MR's got a 6speed and what not.

Thanks

It's better to get the cheapest EVO available with ACD, LSD, big turbo if you are going to extensively mod. The rest will be replaced and the six speed isn't worth the difference you are left with after you remove everything else they charge for anyways. I wish I had an 05 RS instead of my 03 GSR.

If you are going to modify the suspension, engine, change wheels, etc. You are just wasting money with the MR...... OTOH, maybe you can mod the MR and sell those nice BBS, and the Bilsteins for eough money to make it worthwhile.... The 6 speed tranny is sweet and the lower CG makes it handle very nicely.......

okay so more people think like me lol.

I had my mind set on the MR but the more i think about it, it just doesnt make sense to get it with modding in mind.

I have a 05 GSR. Slightly modded with DP and cat delete. I got to drive my Friends MR for a Day and if It is truly a better car than the GSR. If I could swing it I would go MR.

Correct. The tranny is just well...awesome. Shifts are effortless. Power delivery just seemed better. I think MR is a better platform to start from. Yes, you can hook up a GSR and it will be great. I'm doing that right now. If you start with a MR platform I think it's just gonna be incredible by the time your done. I wish I could have afforded the MR at the time I had to purchase a car but yeah... I love my GSR. My GF has a 04 04 WRX and is definetly getting a EVO9 MR when it's available.

Just depedns upon how much your willing to pay for exclusivity and the few MR specific parts that will remain on the car. People have had problems with the MR tranny as well, not just the GSR. And I heard from somewhere the MR tranny has no internal servicable parts...meaning if you fry a synchro, you have to replace the whole thing. Correct me if I am wrong on that.

IDK man, MRs are definitely cool. Just depends on how much your willing to pay.

If are stil unsure...go drive them both. I just cant image the MR driving experience to be vastly different than the GSR....but then again your not just paying for parts, youre paying for pride in ownership, resale value, etc....you know...things that are harder to quantify.

Everyone is different, and only you can answer your own question.
