In reality, they can keep the 6 speed and AYC. I do want however the ACD. If they would offer this as an option with an extra hp package at or under $32K, I would be overjoyed.
I am wondering why would you expect that. If you buy the car abroad, you would end up with the car without paying any of the taxes that local people have to do over there (wherever is that). If you take that example UK prices are in 26k or so and once all of the taxes and taxes on taxes are taken out, you get the same price as the one that we got for the JDM EVO8 transferred to the US dollars.

The same will be if you go and by the car in Germany or Denmark or elsewhere and bring it here to the US.

I have no clue what else is involved here. I don't think that we could make any of the real EVO8 legal here in the US without lots of the leg work. I am sure that Evolution Imports guys will have a say on this one too, if street legality is your goal. If you want the car for the racing only, there are so many more options...

But, if this is the base price for those cars elsewhere (assuming the shipping charges around $1,000) and we are getting US EVOs at $29,000, you would brake even or a bit above that. You would get a few extra gizmos in there that would be very hard to service, but details, details, details!!

When you buy a car abroad, you do not usually have to pay their local taxes. But you do have to pay a myriad of other taxes.

I know....I did it.

I imported an early 1960's Austin Mini from the UK. I paid the value of the vehicle, paid an export tax, paid an import tax, paid an unloading tax, then paid my local states sales tax when I registered it.

btw, if you import a car that is 25 years or older, the car does not need to conform to any of the safety or emissions regs. So if you want a JDM Evo VI, just wait another 22 years...huhu

For me it's much easier to import a car from the U.S. then from anywhere else in the world.

Note the price increase..

Now all we need is some driving impressions. shirokuma, any idea on when the press will be taking them for a spin? Or maybe they already have...
I know select reporters, or more like, one reporter so far, has had a drive. I'm checking into the regular press drive right now - been fighting to get things locked down in general on a lot of things.

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

Evo VIII page is also up on the website. It would help if I could read Japanese though...

I did find a picture of that LCD screen we saw on the UK Evo 8. Looks like a DVD navigation system.

Well, I take back any of my arguments saying that it couldn't be a navi system in the UK Evo....

Ach, now why would they add such superfluous crap to the inside of a rally car?

I found it too and the text says that it is a DVD navigation system, and that it has 7 inch widescreen display, AM/FM radio, Minidisc player, and 6 speakers.
It also says something about Maruchi Communications System... maybe like an Onstar service?

I also noticed that one of the options was a Titanium/Aluminum alloy turbocharger for 50,000 yen... i thought it would be standard

FYI, the first option is a cold weather option, it seems... for 12,000 yen
the 2nd one is sunroof (obvious picture)
the 3rd option is tinted windows
4th is the turbocharger
5th is the DVD/MD/radio/6 speaker system
6th is just 6 speakers

hope this satisfies curiosities...

before you start complaining about the sat nav- it's a JDM option only. The UK cars won't be available with the sat nav as it works in conjunction with VICS, japanese sat nav information system. The car used for the European debut was a full spec JDM car.

Still our Evo is much better than yours, ha ha ha.
