dude, it looks like there's mad handprints in the dirt on your car so they should be able to get some decent fingerprints and nail the bastids. as far as the gas tank goes, they were drinking at a party right? were they younger guys? cause from my experience partying on a college campus, anyone who has had "jungle juice" knows the two main ingredients...everclear, and...koolade...maybe the red kind?? just a thought. as long as you havent started the car and you drop the tank and have it cleaned somewhere, the engine should be fine. i only have an oz but i'd be damned if somebody didnt end up in the hospital if they did that to my car...good luck man.

 

Check under the engine oil cap too. They might have put something down that into the engine.
