Tired of cleaning my bumper

I've got an 03' Evo with a Greddy Ti catback which is an awesome exhaust, super light and sounds really good.

Since the USDM bumper sticks out more than the Japanese one, seems I spend a lot of time cleaning the soot from the rear bumper.

Anyway I finally got around to machining up a spacer that will move the rear section of the exhaust back about .800".

Worked out really slick. The rear hangar actually had a fair amount of extra length so all I had to do was install the spacer and gaskets (Oh yeah, and clean the bumper) and that was it.

Got it installed today and it looks nice, hope it cuts down on the soot and you can actually see a little more of the tip which is nice. Before you would have to look under the car to even see the tip on the deal.

do you have to put flanges on both sides of this spacer? i'm interested in one of these... so i don't have to tell them to add pieces to my cat...

No it just goes in between the flanges that are already on the exhaust. I had to buy a couple of 10mm x 1.25 x 45mm bolts and I already had another gasket so it was just a bolt-on deal.

Here's a pic of the spacer in place, sorry it's kind of a crappy shot but you get the idea . . .

Thanks evo_whiplash, I was trying to minimize the soot on the bumper but really wanted to get the tip on the muffler back enough so you could see it. The stock length leaves it quite a bit short of the bumper.

How did you machine the spacer (i.e. get that shape out of it). I have access to a machine shop, but I'm not sure how to set that up.

I started with a piece of C1018 steel that was 1.25" thick x 4.0" x 5.3", ran the first op on a Mori Seiki vertical mill then chucked the I.D. on a lathe and faced off the excess stock.

I made a solid model of the flange and used that to program the toolpath.

Here's a screen cap of the setup . . .
