What to get with new cams?

Hey All...I was wondering, when getting new cams, usually I'd have to get a new cam gear also. But what other things would I need to get? New retainers? Valve Springs? etc... or are the stock ones good enough?

From what I've heard, other things are optional, but good ideas. Some will depend on how aggressive the cams you're getting are. Post that info for a little more feedback as I've heard many people just do swaps, expecially with the 264's, while others do a bit more work. I'm sure people that have done them can chime in a bit more than I can (as I'm basically going to do everything upto cams and see where I end up.)

I'm thinking of getting 264/264s... I rarely see anyone replacing anything else other than the cam gears...

You dont need cam gears you would want to get head studs but you dont have to. Head studs are just a safety measure. I did hks 272's and just installed the cams nothing else.

I just bought HKS 280's. I am not replacing the cam gears because it is really rare to find any that can compete with the stock ones. But, I am getting new head studs and a new head gasket. I haven't decided whether to replace the head gasket for a stock one or not yet.

you only need to replace springs, retainers with jun cams. no need to get gears even. when i had my cams installed i just had head studs installed along with them.

the only thing you should do at the same time is the head studs if you plan on big boost now or in the future. Everything else is totally extraneous.

Depending on the cam you get, you might need springs and retainers....if you are going HKS, stock stuff is perfectly fine

I would not do cams without a fuel pump, more air needs more fuel secondly, you're already there so why not do headstuds too?

but aren't upgraded fuel pump and injectors only essential only if your gonna be running high boost?
