Found out why new TC is starting to make noises...

ok i installed a new TC about 2000mi ago and changed oils TWICE since install on a new TC with royal purple 75w90. Found out why its starting to howl ( i dont launch or do anything of that nature), its leaking right where the TC and tranny connect. SMALL SMAL SMALL droplets of oil are coming out. anyone know what i should use? should i use gasket maker to stop the leak? would that help? i never got a gasket with my new TC so im guessing people usually re-seal em?

Get the OEM o rings, that's the best way to seal it.

arent the O rings located on the spline area? if so, i dont think those are missing in anyway. could that be causing the leak?

you need a new o-ring in there..thats the only fix..maybe youll get lucky and the seal is cocked of a piece of dirt is on it..but since youll be in there again replace... and how is a leaking gasket causing your t/c to howl...

please dont post retarded stuff.

It happens man...There are 2 o-rings between the tcase and tranny...one small one above the output, you may have pinched the small one. Mine is kinda leaking slowly and will be redoing the small o-ring soon. I have it ready to go, just waiting on a friend to get back from vacation so we can do it.

ahh im sick of this crap, do any of the axles/ driveshaft need to be removed to replace the O ring? Im guessing left side and right side axle so the shaft can be removed to separate the TC and tranny right? damn i might just pay mitsu to do this, how much do u think mitsu will charge for this labor for the O ring replacements? and yea, low on lubrication is why TC is starting to howl, thats pretty obvious.

That is the exact same thing that happend to me. My transfer case got low on fluid somehow. I took it into the stealership, and they said it was perfectly fine (obviously they didn't check the fluid). and 7 hours after leaving the service department, my transfer siezed up on the highway (it sucked). Anyway, they ended up replacing under warranty and it has been in for 2 repairs for oil leaking in between the TC and tranny. and its still leakin a little

Same thing happined on my 3RD t-case , one of the seals were leaking . I think the axles come out but the tranny stays in . you might have to get a rebuild if its howling , try teamrip "GEARS" on evom . sorry bro

no, im fine, its starting to make a lil bit of noise but doesnt bug me as much as my first TC, WHOOOAA, i dont think that was a normal howl, when it approcached 40mph, it would overtake any sound on the fwy with a loud metal type rattling noise that was viscious it even scared V8s(ahah), anyways, well seems like this O ring issue isnt a rare thing, so if i take it to Mitsu, how much will i be charged for them to separate, new O ring, and then fill up the TC and tranny.
