Trans/ TC fluid Chaos

Funny on how Mitsubishi will void warranties in a blink, but you won't believe what I found out yesterday. I have been having some difficulties getting the new clutch dialed in. Long story short Mobil 1 was put in both the TC and Trans on install. It was very, very notchy and difficult to shift. I did the search thing and decided to put what is suppose to be in there- Mitsubishi Diaqueen. Guess what nobody has it and they don't use it. They are using straight GM Syncromesh in both the TC and Trans. I finally found a dealer who had a 5 gallon drum of Diaqueen that has been unopened and he gave me 1 gallon of it. He said we won't be using it either. Just kind of rubbed me the wrong way when you hear of all these denied warranty claims because of minor mods, yet they are using non-recommended oils in the TC. So, the end result for me is Diaqueen for the TC and I used Syncromesh for the Trans. The car feels like a different car now. It shifts super smooth. What do you guys think of Mits using Syncromesh in the TC?

I've used Redline in my TC and rear diff with less than desirable results. I won't put anything other than diaqueen in it these days. BG Synchroshift has worked well in my tranny, though.

Also ... how do you end up with Mobil 1 in your TC and Trans?? ...wow

wow! I'd be surprised if you didn't permanently damage your TC and tranny. That sounds like a story from hell.

The consistency of diaqueen and syncromesh is vastly different...how long did you drive your car with the wrong fluids in it? Topping off the tranny with motor oil if you were short of tranny fluid is one thing but using all motor oil...

OMG...

If I were you I'd change those fluids myself in the future and hold on to any and all documentation proving they used the wrong fluids in case your tranny or TC start acting up.

This is why the demise of Mitsubishi is eminent. The dealers are killing them.

I mean seriously, what kind of quality control is that? You think if this was Toyota that would be happening? I think not.

I guess they use syncromesh because of the cost difference of Diaqueen. Still doesn't make it acceptable. As for the Mobil 1 in my TC. Just to clarify, it was a mobil 1 gear/trans oil, not engine oil. What pisses me off is I was very specific about the oils I wanted to use and didn't get any of them I only ran the car for 300 miles and that was on zero boost, not even 1psi. So, hopefully there is no damage...

Mobil 1 does make gear oils. I'm hoping Most-Wanted meant they used Mobil 1 gear oil in the tranny and TC, not Mobil 1 motor oil.

you are correct, however using some 30 weight engine oil if you're short of tranny fluid (say if you only buy 3 qts but spill a bunch of it) is NOT THAT bad.

First you say they put mobil 1, then you say GM synchromesh, so which one is it? How can you tell by the fluid what it was?

boosting or not wouldn't make a difference. 300 miles sounds like quite a bit w/ the wrong fluids. I hope that you don't have problems...but I don't feel very optimistic about your situation.

they originally put in Mobil 1 in both the tc and tranny but then he had them flush it out with syncromesh and diaqueen when he noticed it being so notchy.

When the installer put the clutch in they used Mobil 1 gear oil for both the TC and trans. I asked for Diaqueen-TC and Syncromesh or BG for the Trans. I didn't get either. I went to all the Mitsubishi dealerships locally to get the Diaqueen and nobody had it and they all said they don't use Diaqueen. They use Syncromesh for both the TC and Trans. In fact, one dealership said they never even heard of Diaqueen??? I finally located some Diaqueen and put it in the TC and bought some Syncromesh for the trans. I did it myself so I knew it got done right this time. I hope this clears some of this up

If you have the 5 speed, you definately want to use Pennzoil synchromesh, BG synchroshift, 5 speed tranny Diaqueen oil. Basically an oil that meets a 75W-90 GL4 rated oil.

If you have the 6 speed, you want to use the 6 speed tranny Diaqueen oil or an oil that meets 75W-85 GL4 rated oil (super rare).

For the TC and Rear diff you want to use the LSD gear Diaqueen oil or an oil that meets the SAE 90 ...

For exact GL ratings please check your users manual ... it been a while since I read it

actually, the 6-speed needs 75-85 GL-4. and i know of a fluid that meets this criteria and i've been very happy with it for around 20,000 miles. it's also fully synthetic. PM me if you want a part number and i'll be glad to share.
