Im not much of a drag racing guy but I do it at the track and on the street every once in a while (only on the street if it's an open road w/ no traffic).
canyons are dangerous... and if i had a choice... i would find backroads that aren't on a hill or leading into a crevice filled valley one mile down... but in los angeles... that's the only kinda raceway we're famous for. i'd imagine the east coast to have very nice twisties going through "woods" too bad there are no "safe" alternatives here.
if anything... think of it like monte carlo rally... i think THAT'S WAY WAY more scary....
there's those that follow the mantra of initial d and worship keisuke's words when he says that touge is the only one true form of racing because it's bar none with all the risks and unpredictables. i think that's foolish... the only tru sport is a repeatable one... track racing is definitely important as a measuring stick of ability. and the ultimate even by those standards would not be touge but rally... in rally you REALLY have no control... and we don't always have to see it as wrc... that gets the most coverage but htere's plenty of other groups and classes that are more "realistic"

I'm thinking of putting my Advans on, top off the intercooler sprayer, and paying for a few laps in the Evo...how does the process work with them? Do you need a track membership? Do you need to buy your own helmet and other stuff?

I really want to try out Mid-Ohio, maybe we could go together or something because I've never been there. I hear its rather dangerous for a first timer there though
street racin once in awhile. Last night, I did some late night food shopping at the super wal-mart with my fiance... some stupid *** honda civic all riced out pulls next to me..and revs his fart can; rolled down his window all cocky saying how he's gonna spank my "fake" evo HAHAHAHAH.....i laughed and said, no thanks big baller..he called me a ***** and i responded..."sorry kid, I have groceries in the car worth more than your car"..and he sped off while i gave the thumbs down, and my girl flicking him off with a smile..hahaha...sorry, had to share that

I mainly stick to road course but settle for drag seeing that course time is expensive and such...I'll also admit i have accepted a challenge every now and again on the fly, I hope im not less of a person.

Compare that to the adrenaline rush of flying down a straight at 120+ mph, waiting until the very last possible moment to brake as hard as you can manage without locking up before diving into a turn at 1+ lateral G, and doing it again (and again), lap after lap, and street "racing" is just weak sauce.
Allow me to refer you to my favourite article on the matter: http://www.nsxfiles.com/Pyramid_of_speed.htm
Just so you know where you are:
i think it's kinda foolish to regard f1 as the ultimate type of racing... although the cars are going fast the level of modification even though it is bound by a set of rules thicker than TWO bibles is ridiculous to the point that most f1 drivers are talented drivers that are more superb than each other at fiddling with a brake balance controller mid turn. the amount of downforce they make despite regulations on body geometry are just ridiculous to the point that competition is almost boring.
the true racing that this person never mentioned is not open wheel racing but grand touring production cars like lemans gt and n/a open track, n/a grand touring, jgtc etc etc.
although i feel this (apparently) nsx owner is quite mislead i would love to hear what he has to say about drifters and the new breed of street racers that are assocaited with that, as well as rally (which i believe is the ultimate racing) and the type of "street racer" (although rally could definitely be considered street racing) or canyon runner that is associated with that.
who's got more nuts? the guy going 120+ outta ever corner in his gt3 grand tourer or the guy goin' *** first into every blind corner going through monte carlo? ahh i can't decide :]. but then again THIS is the beauty of diverse motorsports. hell... i love f1.
