Evo VIII break-in

Got brand new Evo Have to break it in. The owner's manual says not much: just not rev it over 5krpm during first 1.500km. But people (esp. sellers often say about detailed Mitsu break-in procedure they came along. So how to treat my Evo during these special days?

You mainly want to keep the revs low, stay out of the boost and no hard braking or shifting at first. Especially no launches if you want your clutch to last.

dude im going to spare you some of the hate you are going to get cuz im a relative newb to...

but do a search. the topic has been beaten to a pulp.. you will find multiple threads with multiple points of view.

me personally, i drove it below 4k for the first 600 miles and below 5k for the first 1000 miles. i changed my oil at 500 and at 1000 miles. after 1000 miles i got on it.

Just don't slip your clutch or rev over 5k for like 6 months.

I meant 600 miles, not 6 months.

You want to leave 4 steaming streaks of Advan ao46 out of the dealers lot, taking care to hit the limiter in all consecutive gears.

6 months??? crap I'd be screwed then hehe!! Just drive car as a "normal" person would. Shifting around 3k, don't go auto-x your car this weekend, blah blah blah -- enjoy the car. Don't beat the crap out of it and you'll be fine.

There was a good post on this recently with a link to a shop that said to:
Month 1 (500miles) rev it no higher than 4000RPM and do 6 fast runs to 4500
Month 2 (750miles) rev it to no higher than 5000RPM and do 6 fast runs to 5500
1000 miles complete the seating of all components by doing 3 fast redline runs

all runs should not be done back to back....but spaced out over the mileage period

ill try and find the exact link for you

3 redline runs? without breaking the speed limit? lol does it matter what gear? 3 redline runs in 5th gear can get you in a lot of trouble

Lol, amen to the guy above. Going to save this information now. Since I'll be the owner of one soon and don't want to repost.

Keep your car under 4k for the first 1000 miles and don't load the engine under low rpms. Don't floor the gas pedal press it down a little and let it get up to speeds. After the 1000 miles the engine is good to go. Now your trans could probably use more time to break in. In my case my Evo needed 3000 miles for the gears to shift good so I took it easy for the 3000 miles. Good luck.
