Another cop story...this one's strange.

I just got in. It's 3:45 AM. Here's what happened...
Me and 2 buddies see Amityville Horror, stop at a diner on the way back home. We leave there and are about halfway home..Cop gets up my *** as I'm cruising at the speed limit on an empty road, approx 45 mph. Turns his big searchlight on and shines it in my face as he follows at a distance of probably 5-10 feet from my bumper...I put on my turn signal to take my left turn because he hasnt thrown on his red and blues yet. I'm confused at this point...as soon as I put that signal on he lights em up.

State troopers. So first he accuses me of having a "loud exhaust", which he claims is why he pulled me over...mind you, my car is bone STOCK besides the intake, jdm 7 tails, and UK 8 badge. And I was humming along at probably 3k rpms. "This exhaust came on this car?" me: "absolutely". Then his partner taps on my passenger window as I'm opening my glove compartment to get my registration card out. He says to me "Now everything in there is in plain view." and reaches in and starts rummaging around in my glove compartment. I tell him something along the lines of "you won't find anything in there." and he stares at me and accuses me of giving him attitude. I say "I was not trying to give you attitude, officer." He insists that I was. Then he pulls out a baggie which I occasionally use to hold tokens when I play a random game of Initial D at the arcade . Starts sniffing the **** out of that bag and the bag that my evo owners manual came in. Oh man it was great. Next he pulls out a still-wrapped cigar that was in my compartment, sniffs that. Asks us if we smoke cigarettes. Accuses us of spraying cologne to cover a scent. "You guys always wear this much cologne? Were there ladies with you tonight or something?" Only one of us was wearing a small amount. Just such crap he was giving us. This guy was just DYING to get me for weed. I don't smoke weed and so I had absolutely no drugs or drug paraphenalia in the car and neither did my friends. They continue to ask us if we had been drinking. Then check our story again, ask us where we came from, trying to make us contradict ourselves. These guys were on a roll and we were plain old innocent citizens. I felt great. Then, the cop at my passenger window asks to search my car...."I'd like to know why" I told him....he tells me he has probable cause...which he clearly did not. I had nothing linking to drugs or open alcohol in my car. I ask him what he will do if I tell him no. He fumbles for words and finally says he can make things a whole lot worse, and the cop at my window agrees. I tell them go ahead but you absolutely will not find anything. They finally look at each other and say "you think they're good?" "Yeah ok..." and let us off, but not before the cop at my passenger window gives me one more stare and scold for attitude which I definitely DID not give him at any point. Absolute garbage. Bad police conduct. We laughed the entire ride home. Great stuff. However, I am very unhappy with the way some cops conduct themselves, it's quite embarassing to law enforcement. They don't seem to realize that we are citizens of this country protected under something called the BILL OF RIGHTS. We are not prisoners. Such crap, I dunno exactly why but I feel sorta violated by our own police force even tho I did not get a ticket. I am pissed, yet amused at the same time. These guys were just looking for trouble to pin on some young guys at 3:15 AM and used a BULL**** exhaust story to get their flashlights in our faces. Pfff.

Sorry for the rant, just felt like sharing a cop story, I know they are popular these days. Night guys.

Good story. The important thing is staying innocent and being able to tell these stories of evom instead of telling them to cell mates. Some police officers can be real *******s sometimes and we just have to deal with it.

Ok I wanted to reply to this thread for ya. Couple things. The police officer who went thru your glove box and was looking thru your stuff, this is what we call an "illegal search". When he stated "plain view", thats just it, it's plain view from looking inside the car, from the outside via thru the windows. Second, this is for all members on the forum regardless if your 16yr old or 50yr old. When an officer askes if he can search your car, you have the right to say no by law. Honestly if we had probable cause, we wouldn't ask. So don't feel as if you have to let them search.

It's funny because I work in D.C. and we so busy, we don't have time to just pull people over to **** with them.

It is my belief that if you wanted to, and had the guys name and badge number you could file a complaint for borderline harassment. Especially if he didn't get you a ticket for any violation.

i really hoped he gave u an exhaust ticket so u can make a fool out of him in court. You can literally tell the judge that the cop is STUPID for making assumptions. All you gotta do is show ur factory stuff and then ask for compensation for time lost

Oh and I forgot to mention, after I politely said goodnight to these guys, the guy who searched my glove compartment told us in a nasty tone "I'll remember you guys..." and walks back to his cruiser. Yeah real necessary.

hey not all of us are azzholes. i myself am in jersey. i also dislike cops that behave this way but unfortunately there is not much we can do. when stuff like this happens thats when you have to make a complaint. i would never do something like that myself. maybe if you see him again try to get his badge number. evo police which police force do you work for? dc police or capital police? i went to dc and took the test for capitol police but then i got a job in jersey first so i stayed here.

I've been with MPDC for 8 years. Prior to coming to DC, I was with the Uniformed CIA police out of Langley VA. Good job, but all they did was security like Secret Service. I wanted lock-ups, drugs and guns, not just walking around making sure doors are locked and doing 100% I.D. checks!

How do you like Jersey. Are you state or city?

Last week I got pulled over, and asked to open my hood (with the mods below) here in Southern California. I told him every thing is legal under the hood, and I am on my way to smog the car now ! So I totaly came out clean.

This is why I live in a large city. No time to give me tickets for exhaust or tint etc...
