I guarantee you guys would be saying the movie was a good comparison if the EVO won.

I wouldn't. Especially since there's only a small amount of coverage of the EVO. When the title of the thread suggests comparison of two vehicles but what you get is overwhelming coverage of one, I would feel misled, even if the EVO won. Besides, seeing an EVO win in a comparison to a Subaru wouldn't be much of a suprise to me anyway. I just figured this was some sort of new objective test I hadn't seen. It obviously isn't.

You cannot realistically compare cars in a wheel to wheel race. There is way too much room for operator error, as seen in that movie.
Exactly.

I wonder what the drivers were saying? The old Sti Spec C tore all the others apart and it's fastest lap was around 1 quicker than the next fastest car.

Even though that had a lot of footage of the Sti, it was pretty good. I really like those gauges

Well, I don't think that results would be the same if we had EVO RS racing alone against the TypeC that won. RS was stuck behind the silver STi and couldn’t go by. From looking at the video, it was obvious that RS was trying to pass it everywhere, and in one of those moment driver made a mistake and got passed by the TypeC white one.

So, as other people already mentioned, this was the race between the 5 drivers and it happened that drivers in the TypeC and new STi where faster/better/luckier (use whatever it suites you) to end up at ahead of the others.

What was important to me was that RS was as fast as that TypeC car and faster than new STi on the straight part of the course. It looked faster then the new STi on the other parts of the course too. That is probably result of the light weight of the RS compared to the new STi. I think that weight was about the same compared to the TypeC, but that car was claimed to have 320 HP (from what I could understand - japanese is not really my first language ), so it should have been faster anyway. It wouldn't be that much faster if RS didn't have that heavy STi ahead all the time.

Also, the yellow GSR fall behind at the beginning, but cough up at the end, so that driver was either inexperienced or he didn't try that hard. At the end, it was the Subaru move and not somebody else’s!

And the last thing. They compared all of those Subaru’s against the old version of the Evolution, and if they are planning to be still in the game, they better be faster with their latest model!

Yeah, the Best Motoring videos are always like that - it's not (supposed to be) a definitive test but it's good watching And they usually make it out to be as much a competition between the drivers as the cars. I have a great one where they race a bunch of brand new Porsches and Ferraris etc in the rain And the CTR/ITR race is a classic.

They do actually sometimes do some more calculated stuff - oval top speed tests, 0-400m and suchlike.

Wow... my VCD spread to evo forums already..

EVO7 RS could of take the lead very early of the race... if that
crazy old man didn't almost crash into him... then RS mis-shifted
and old Spec C took the lead...

I believe old Spec C is a good 100kg (220lb??) than the new STi
and new Spec C is still 40kg (88lbs) more than then new Spec C..

In term of power/weight ratio... old Spec C is the closest to the
RS... But you can see that all 4 cars are very close (in most part of
the race) with GSR trailing far behind...

Man....

Good vid but ALOT of b!itch whine goin on. Dag people relax.

These are cars with human drivers. I love both cars for what they are. NEITHER car would be at the level they are now if not for the other vehicle.

Competition makes you better.

Great vid...especially the WRC part.

Yup... you can tell from the video that STi's handling was improved
over the last version... a lot of the old understeer has been dialed
out in the new one.... making it more of a match against the EVO..

But we'll see how things match up with the release of JDM EVO8..

Yes, they're definitely close competition, which I think is what allows the battle to go on. If one was really that much better than the other, there wouldn't be much arguing

Can't wait to see the new Evo 8 being tested.

Mark,

I provided the STi video... and I think I should get the EVO8 ones
too once it is released... would you be able to host it?
Should be the same size as the STi video once compressed..
