for the kind of damage, touch up paint does not work. you need to strip the paint out from the surface. then if there's 'low spot' or 'dents' put icing or glazing putty over it then sand it off until it's flat and smooth. Use 180 grit dry sandpaper then apply 3 coats of primer surfacer to remove sandpaper scratches. (before applying the primer surfacer make sure u clean the surface with rubbing alcohol or wax & grease remover) after that sand it with 400 grit wet sandpaper with a soft pad (don't remove the primer just sand it until it's smooth) and if it's smooth and level apply 2 coats of sealer then finish it with 3 coats of basecoat & 3 coats of clear. By the way, don't use wax while working on the car because it contains silicone that might ruin the finish.

estimated cost: $200-350 for Do IT Yourself.

did you try the link, they sell all the supplies you listed, and have insructions just like you posted. they will mix spray cans of base color, clear coat, and primer. which is required for serious scratches.

I would have gone to a body shop and talked with the guy there. I like to weigh an estimate for a professional job before I go and do it myself. Plus when chatting with the guy you might get a good idea of how to fix it right if you chose to do it yourself in the end.

Whoever said blend before is right. the gouges would be filled and smoothed out. the rest of the general area would be scuffed and, with proper masking, the paint would be blended, then a layer or more of clearcoat.

The cheapman way to do that would have been to apply very thin coats of the touch up over a week or two. The color would still be off and the surface wouldn't be smooth but it wouldn't be that noticable.

...or you can ghetto it: just use stickers to cover up the boo boo, hahaha! That's how I cover up all of my scratches on my snowboard.

dude the exact same thing happened to me yesterday!! i was in a hurry to go take SAT in da morning so i pulled out of the garage without warming my car up or anything. My uncle's civic was on the right side outside the garage while i was on the left side inside the garage. I thought i had enough space so i just pulled out straight without really paying attention to how close i was to my uncles car...and....SCRATCHHHHH..... i ran out of my car and saw hella huge white/silver scratches on the rear right bumper and blue paint from my car on my uncle's bumper. i quickly removed all my paint on my uncle's bumper. It was barely noticble because his bumper had been crashed long time ago and there was already this huge dent on the bumper. But my car was really badly scratched, and i had no time to handle it, not until i was done with sat..... after sat, i cleaned off all the silver paint from my uncle's car on my bumper with thinner and Goo-Gone, then i used some of the "Scratch-X" thing and rubbed the heck outta it. Then i tried to use some of the Turtle brand rubbing compund but that thing was too strong, it created more light scratch marks when i was rubbing it in circluar motion. I rubbed the scratches with Scratch-X for like 15 minutes and the scratches were almost all gone! It looked so much better than before, i cant even see the scratches unless im looking from like a curtain angle.

EDITED: I didnt use any touch up paint tho. those touch up pen from dealer sucked so badly! the color is lighter than my car and its all sticky and ****... also it ran out after i've used it to fix like 2 tiny scratches.....or maybe they dried out...iono... that thing DOESNT worth $15....
