I've read that having a roll cage may be beneficial during a roll or a crash against gaurd rails or closed track, but for daily driving usage involving a accident with another car it may hurt the driver because the driver is unlikely going to be wearing a helmet.
It ruins the crumple zone designed to absorb some of the transferred energy, and the while can cause broken bones /hit your head.
just hopefully some of you guys that daily your evos will think it over...

Its pretty clear he plans on using the cage for show purposes. I wouldnt ever drive that thing on the street with anything but a regular 3 point OEM seatbelt. Any harness attaching to that harness bar would compress the sh$t out of your back in an accident.
I'm not there to measure your cage but here are some specs from NASA to keep in mind.
15.6.5 "None of the tubing may show any signs of crimping or wall failure. All bends must be Mandrel type. The center radius of the bends may not be less than three (3) times the outside diamter of the roll cage tubing."
15.5
"6. The shoulder harness shall be mounted behind the driver and above a line drawn downward from the shoulder point at an angle of NO MORE THAN TWENTY (20) degrees with the horizontal."
15.6.7
"At least one (1) diagonal brace shall be used in the same plane as the main hoop. One end of the diagonal brace shall attach to the corner, or horizontal part, of the main hoop above the driver's head, within twelve (12) inches of the driver's-side corner. The other end of the diagonal brace shall attach to the mounting plate (or to the main hoop as close to the mounting plate as practically possible) diagonally opoposed to the driver's head (passenger floor)."
This one I'm pretty sure you fail because I see NO rear braces at all.
15.6.11
"The main hoop must have two braces extending to the rear. The braces shall be attached as near as possible to the top of the main hoop, and no more than six inches below the top. The braces must not contain ANY bends. There must be at least 30 degrees between the plane of the main hoop and the plane of the rear braces. The main hoop rear braces shall be installed to form no more than a one hundred five degree angle or no less than a seventy-five degree angle with the main hoop when viewed from the top. The main hoop braces may be mounted at the rear shock mounts or suspension pickup points. They may go through any rear bulkheads provided the bulk head is sealed around the cage braces."
That's all I'm going to offer, but you already know this right, because obviously you read the rules and gave them to your builder to go by..right?

Emre, I was being a bit sarcastic (but forgot the appropriate smiley
). That's why I questioned if he was planning on using a harness with it. I'm all for innovation and whatnot, but that looks pretty dangerous. I would love for there to be a good solution to this, but unless the car is only for the track the factory belts have to be sufficient.
This is unfortunate. Someone has just spent around $1500 for a cage that won't be accepted anywhere, and worse, other folks here can't wait to get one because it looks good.
Hopefully some people will get the message. If you're getting a cage because you want one, then you absolutely don't need one. If you need one you already have the requirements from your sanctioning body and you know the difference between a real fabricator and a boutique that sells pretty things.
