troubles trailering evo. Need HELP!
I'm moving to Colorado in a couple of weeks and I'm planning on trailering my evo (on a flat bed trailer of course) Penske is telling me a stock evo wont fit due to the tire size (245/45r17) according to their brochure rim size larger then 16" wont fit, but 265/70r16 a much larger tire all around will fit. HELP! I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this. All info will be appreciated.
you can do it. I did it with my last car, my hyundai tiburon with 17" wheels w/ 40 series tires, and still had lots of room to keep tightening. go there and try it first, but mine worked AOK
you know i dont think there will be a problem either. i believe its more a liability issue in there part then anything. i guess im just looking for some reassurance so i dont run into problems the day of the move.
Let me be the first to say, welcome to Colorado! What parts are you moving too? I don't think you'll have any problems, you're right when you say it's probably just for liability. I know U-Haul wouldn't let my friend rent a trailer because he had a soft top Jeep.
You can hire a company that specializes in transporting cars. Lots of them out there, but you MUST find one with a good/clean record with the BBB. They picked up my car on a flatbed, then used a big 18wheeler car carrier to transport it cross country. Then, they delivered it to my house on a flatbed. FYI , i got my car transported from NJ to Cali for only $800

I rented a car hauling trailer from U-haul and had no problems at all. Just make sure you get the whole car trailor and not just the two wheel dolly. Maybe that is what they were trying to tell you is that you can't use a dolly because it leaves two wheels on the ground which you know you can't do becuase of the AWD. In regrads to the rim size the tie down straps that go over the wheels fit just fine. Hope this helps.
