Help me make my Evo sound good.

I love the way the Evo turns, accelerates, and handles. I just don't love the way it sounds. I have a borla exhaust and hks downpipe and I think I need an intake because I really don't hear anything but valve train. The borla is great quality but it really does't have that growl I was looking for. Rather it is very low and bassy rather than a growl or exhaust flap as I have heard it refered to as. Does the intake really change the sound of the car?

Changes the sound , but in some cases doesnt make it run the best, or you may even lose power.

Yeah definately get the intake if you want a meaner sound. Maybe try a different catback??? Borlas always tend to sound low like a truck or mustang.

run a catless downpipe, you will have more sound than you'll know how to handle.

It's really easy to make it sound good. Get rid of the useless muffler!!! Get an axel back exhaust straight pipe. DOne.

Since you mentioned that all you hear is valvetrain, I'm assuming that you want to hear boost? An intake makes a huge difference, you will definitely hear boost spooling and the diverter valve. Also, get a BOV-- you will definitely hear the turbo. If you want crazy spooling loudness, get an intercooler. A combination of everything there will increase the sound of boost.

I'm running the WORKS inhale/exhale package, which includes a 3" ceramic coated d/p, stainless 3" back to their Stealthworks muffler. With a GFB bov and a BMS drop in air filter, it snarls. I had a straight pipe instead of a muffler aft of the cat, but that was crazy loud.

hmm, dont like the sound of the borla? it does have that crackling sound in it.. but boy does it sound mean going by at full throttle. I have one on my evo (with a gt30 turbo kit running catless) and like it alot. but i agree it's not the best sound at idle. HKS catback or any of the "unstockish" looking exhausts will fix your problem.

about turbo noise
intake = alot of turbo noise
new turbo = ALOT of turbo noise
external wastegate venting into the atmosphere = damn cool hahaha
