Ok here's the deal, I am a carselesman and have been for 9 years now, I am 29 years old and bought my Evo last year and the salesman at the Mitsu store told me they dont give test drives to anyone in Evo's unless they are buying today! Being a carsalesman myself I knew this was bull s__t . I asked to speak to the General Manager and I was driving the car by my self without a salesman in 5 mins. Basically if the salesman thinks you're not buying he or she wont want to waist time on you. I know its wrong because its our jobs as salesman to do so. However I myself work at a Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge dealership and we have a bunch of youngens and older people we call (STROKES) Who like to come in waist our time and pretend they are buying cars when infact they are not. Now with you being under 18 the salesman is right, by law he cannot give you a test drive or negotiate numbers with you for any reason. However he should have told you to come in with you're parents then you could test drive the car with them in it. Thats how I would and most salesman should of done it.

Alot of car sales man really get jerked off by customers so its unfortunate when the guy who really is interested in buying a car gets a bad experience when trying to make his or her purchase.

Yeah my bf wasn't allowed to test drive his evo either no one had ever test driven this evo before. I think its a good idea i mean why would you want someone else to test drive a car you want to buy, what happens if they sucked and just thought it looked good so they wanted to give it a shot. I understand why they don't let you buy it until you are ready to buy. Hey it brought my bf good luck his dad didn't test drive it at all thats the only reason he got the car, if his dad would have driven it and felt all the power he wouldn't have gotten his evo.

I emailed the dealer a month before or so asking about what Evo's they had.
They wrote back the typical "we can get anything you want"

I walked in out of the blue and wanted to take their showroom one for a spin.
They copied my drivers license and insurance card. In 15 minutes they had to rearrange the showroom to get the Evo out.

I went for a spin, and got the thing sideways coming out of the lot.
I didn't really run into any problems.
Just a pain waiting for them to get it ready.

I talked to the salesman over the next week, had them do a dealer trade to get my Tarmac Black one from across the state. 3 days later, I drove my new baby home.

Oh yeah, I'm 22.

Depends on the dealership I guess. And I acted serious about buying the car, that probably helped too.

I actually like this policy.. it keeps all the kids from beating up evo's with no intent in buying them. It sucks for those who really are interested and know how to drive.. but worth it I guess

Hi James,

I wanted to follow up with you regarding your interest in the Evo. I want
to be up front with you immediately and let you know that b/c you are 17
years old I am not ALLOWED to test drive or sell you any vehicle by law.
FYI, We are not allowed to test drive the Evo due to insurance regulation
regardless of age.

Thank You,

i was wondering why they would even sell an evo if they weren't allowed to test drive it due to insurance reasons. so when you look at the car i should expect to see the mileage on the odometer around 3 since they aren't allowed to drive it due to insurance. why even have it in the showroom for people to look at?? cleaning a fingerprint off of the vehicle may require their insurance company to come asses the damadge.

and i have test drove other vehicles before so i think this guy is just BS'ing me.(maybe he is right though. he is the only dealership within about 50 miles from me that still has evo's on the lot. and there's about 10 in this distance)
actually there may be some truth to that cuz u cant even rent or drive a rental car unless ur at least 18, and most dont let u until ur 21. It sounds like he is not BSing u, now if u were 18 they i would say he is but that sound about right. If u cant wait then go with one of ur parents, make it look as if u are going to buy it and im sure even if they are not "Allowed" legely to let u test drive it im sure they can find some way around it. Good luck

The first Evo they sold here in Spokane Wa was a silver one to a asian guy. When he went on the test drive he drove the sh**t out of the car and ended up running off the road and high centering the evo causing over 5,000 in damage. When he got back to the dealership he says," I'll take it" he didnt care it was recked he said, " its only a car" and he got it fixed. This is a good reason not to let people test drive Evo's.

The problem is that you are too young and not financed/buying as of yet. My dealer threw me the keys, no questions but then again I am not 17. A lot of dealers won't let you test drive because nobody wants to buy an Evo with more than 10mi. on it. Mine was right off the truck.

When the Evo first came out, they wouldnt let alot of people take it for a test drive, in fact, I even had to provide adaquate indication that I was going to purchase the car and I'm 26 making well into 6 figures.
I have to agree with him, its a no win situation for them so why would they.

My local dealer wouldnt let test drive an 05 evo, which is bs sense they let me test an 03 and i had bought my 03 from them, they said they didnt allow test drives and when i had told him that i had bought my 03 from him as in he was the guy i bought from and said he had never seen me. so i drove over to there audi/acura dealer and they let me test drive a brand new audi s4 and they have a 99 nsx in the showroom that is in the process of being sold but told me if the deal didnt work out that i could come and test drive it. I told them that i was waiting for the rs3 and told me it was no problem and i could still test drive anything on the lot. same guy owns both dealers, its just funny that i cant drive the evo but i can go drive there s4 which is about 20 grand more. By the was the dealer is duncan in roanoke va

i went to a subaru dealer as a 23 year old driving a 2003 jetta 1.8t GLS (leather, heated seats, sunroof, 18" wheels, etc)...they would not let me test drive an sti...

2 weeks later i purchased my evo i brought it back up to subaru but they acted like they didnt remember me and they had no sti's on the lot at that time...

oh well...anyways, not letting a 17yr old drive a brand new car of ANY kind, much less an evo, is not something i would complain about

Most dealers don't allow test drives under 18. If they do, they obviously wouldn't let you drive the performance car. No matter what age, they probably won't let you drive an EVO if you express no interest in buying that exact one. The reason, no one wants a driven EVO. With a car like this, if it's been test driven, no one wants it. I was the first person besides the tech to drive my car, and I'm glad. Otherwise I wouldn't have taken it.

Once you're ready to buy your IX, go in, be 18 or older, express interest and let them know you want to buy it. They'll let you if you're going to buy it. If you just go in, looking with no interest to buy it, how do they know you don't just want to joyride in it like most people? You need to be buying the one you want to drive.

Just be glad, when you get your IX, that you know the same policy that rejected you, stopped people from joyriding the car you're buying. I think you'll really understand it then more than now.
