Some dealers are just d*cks. Before the evo was released I was interested in a nissan 350z. I went to a local nissan dealership and wanted to test drive one. The wouldn't let me they said it was their policy. They also had a uded 350z which they wouldn't let me test drive. It is a bunch of bs. But I had no problem test driving my evo. I was 22 at the time, and they pretty much forced the keys upon me to drive it. So in the long run it worked out for the best.

I test drove an evo without being in the buying process though I had a fat check to spend on one. Maybe south florida mitsu dealers are diferent? At the same time though Subaru wouldnt let me test drive a STI... one of the first reasons i picked mitsu before subbi.

But as a store manager myself... your 17? I wouldnt have let you drive it either. There would be no sales incentive even if you 'stated' you would buy a IX when they came out. Sales matters today not months from now.

not really it's thanks me i worked my *** off for 1 summer to buy the car i have now and then worked to mod/ save for my evo and college(apt food class etc.). my parents are against me buying a new car and want to have nothing to do with it. if anything it would b under their insurance but probably not because i will be paying for this as a way to establish residency in a new state.(should just buy a bike). i will enjoy my evo even though i know they only place i will be bringing it to is school and work for about 4 or 5 years. once outside of the car it will suck but being in it will be a blast

At 18 I was allowed to test drive a 350z and rx8 with no questions asked. The evo took a little talking, but they let me and I drove it home that night. The people at the nissan and mazda dealerships took me out with them driving, and then let me switch and drive it. They beat the sh*t out of those cars. Both launched their cars from a stop trying to scratch every possible gear, and then took me through some twisties. After being told several times to do this and that to the car I told them I wouldn't be buying anything that had more than 10 miles on it. They abuse those cars. Low mileage is what you want on an evo or any car for that matter. I was happy when it was somewhat difficult to test drive my evo.

I am sooooo happy dealerships do not let random people test drive evos until the day they buy.

found one on the internet about 400 miles away basically brand new. wanted to drive one first. went to the dealership and 20 min later was being entertained by a young salesman. the car had over 400 miles on it and was their demo vehicle. after that ride, I bought the one on the internet, but felt sorry for the sap that ended up with the black one we rode in. he beat the **** out of it over the 20 miles we went, and based on his comfort level with the car, it was apparent that he had logged many of the 400 miles... boostin every chance he got, and slammed on the brakes hard every stop...
fun test drive though....

i am suprised the guy didn't even say that he would give me a test drive and let me be a passenger. when i have gone with a friend of mine to test drive other cars they usually just sit in the vehicle with you unless it's a used dealership then they let you take it out by urself. i wonder if i asked him about a regular lancer or galant without telling him my name/ age i'm sure he would let me hop right in after they made a copy of my license

I was at a Dealer looking ( already had mine) and saw a Yellow one with black rims... aftermarket you ask .. nope.. Brake dust.. and it had scuff marks all down the drivers side rocker panel... it was in the lot for sale.. and the wheels were filthy.. i mean it takes a lot to blacken the back ones and they were just as bad as the front...

How many people were disappointed with their Evo, either by the test drive or on the way home after purchase??? That's the #1 reason right there and mitsu knows this.

Its quite funny reading these post!
I test drove 4 evo's on different occasions before i bought my evo!
Dealer said they dont give test drives to feel people out! If they have one they probably wont to keep idiots from getting a free rag on their car!
Hell i knew more about the car than the entire dealership!
I bought my car and it was on the show room floor for 2 weeks! Why?
So I could get enough time to strip my trade (prelude sh) of the $6000 in mods!
On the other hand the small subby dealership tried to get me to pull credit! Told them I could take them a check and drove 2 STI! Just for the hell of it I drove my evo up there

I didn't have a problem getting a test drive at 3 dealerships in my area when i got my 04. But.. I'm 36 and I drove up in my big GAS EATING Land Rover (may she rest in peace). I knew i was going to buy the car, but it came down to who was going to treat me the best. Cause I'm going to have to deal with them for quite some time!

You should look into the law behind all of this. The reason the dealer wouldnt sell you the car is any minor (under 18 usually) is not heald to any contract they make (their contracts are "voidable". The government protects the young ones by not letting them make "mistakes". So if you were to buy the car, close to your 18th birthday you could call the dealership say "i want to return the car, and they have to take it back. Otherwise you can sue them and a court will order them to take the car back.
