This should be a plug in every EVO vs * thread

According to local car magazine, the Z was slower in every acceleration test they made, both standing start and from the roll.

Experience with autos, yes, just not a 350z auto specifically. An Auto on any car is always slower, unless it has more hp from some other source. It's no different with the Z.

Listen to this guy, he's an expert! I wish I could convince my dad to get a Syclone, as he's been wanting a small truck lately (my mother caught the gardening bug again).

The 350Z is a cheap rip off and wanna be car. The twin turbo 300zx last generation is the car to have over the new one.

orrrrrrrrrrrr you can just believe those who've actually raced z's instead of the people who just make assumptions.

ive raced 2 and i am still bone stock.

1st z: no launch, he launched. i had 4! yes 4!!! passengers and still had a car length and a half on him till i began braking for a light.

2nd z: i rev. he does nothing. i start slow, he launches and takes off. i step on it. by end of 3rd gear im 3+ car lengths ahead of him and called it quits.

When I raced a 350Z on a closed track it wasnt so easy. I did not launch at all so while I was waiting for the turbo to spool, the Z's torque had already been working and he pulled a couple lengths. As soon as my turbo hit 3k I pulled right up on him but after that I could not pull on him, nor did he pull on me. The Z was stock and was probably a 6MT. If I lauched it would have been a completely different story but I was still surprised that I couldn't pull on him anymore. Z's aren't THAT slow. And remember, my car is not stock.

I personally owned a 350 (manual) before gettin rid of it for my evo. The evo is deff faster than the Z EXCEPT on the high end. I ran my Z to the speed limiteer of 160mph which wasnt that hard to get there. It has nice torque on the high end still. I didnt have many mods, but it was deff faster from 80+ on stock vs stock. But most of the time your not worried about that speed. Just 0-105 1/4 and the evo will win everytime... unless your a crappy driver!

i consitently blow past this red 350z on a local highway once a week. the first time he pulled up to me and gave me a look. i dropped to 3rd at 70 and never had him catch up. i had some subs in my car stock 04 RS but i didn't pull that much on him. now i have tbe, ebc and a lower I/C and it is no contest. i can beat him in 4th from 70 easy.

These threads scare me... Now granted the 03 and 04 Evo's seem to be closer to the mid 13's @ 103 mph but I ran a 13.0 @ 105 mph stock in my 05 Evo so I don't understand how a low to mid 14's @ 99 mph 350z is going to beat out an Evo no matter what the situation given equal drivers. Are people racing from 5 mph in second gear and expecting to beat all comers? In the end it is rather pointless as we all know that spending a smart $2000 in mods on the Evo will net low 12's or better where as a similar HP normally aspirated car will take quite a bit more money to reach that level of performance.

From a standing start the Evo should gain several lengths on the 350z. If they are both from a roll at best the 350z would keep pace or slowly fade away against an 03 or 04 Evo but against an 05 Evo they would not be keeping pace and would most definitely fade away. There's no way a 350z would "destroy" an Evo running a 99 mph trap speed in the quarter unless the Evo driver was a double clutching fool busting the welds on his intake manifold...

as i understand it, the 350z has a little less weight, dynoes higher, doesn't have to deal with boost taper, better CoD. so how're you stock evos pulling so hard on stock Zs (edit: from rolls)?

and to Hiboost: a 99mph trap is nothing to laugh at in the quarter w/a low 14 second time. that should be enough to hang with or beat a stock evo from a roll.

I don't think you understand correctly. Z = 14 second car, Evo = 13 second car. That is a second worth of distance. I wonder how this "roll" race works. It's like there is a league of people who think their car is fast because it can win from a "roll". Where are these roll racing tracks?
