Well, the original owner of my Evo had 2nd and 5th gear syncros replaced before 16k miles. Then, at 32k miles, I had 4th gear syncro replaced. NOW, at 36k miles, the 5th gear syncro is out again. WTF!!??!?!??!?!?!

I am so sick of this car. I think my car was built by disgruntled crackheads at the factory.



I seem to have a HUGE problem shifting the car into second gear when I'm trying to drive fast. I misshift 2nd all the time. I installed the brass underhood bushings, B&M short throw shifter w/bushings and the problem did NOT get better...if anything it's worse. Any suggestions???

oh yeah, forgot to mention, when the car is cold it's hard to shift into any gear but reverse is very hard. gets a little better when the trans heats up.

 

maybe it's your driving habit? maybe your clutch out a bit sooner and force the shifter in? or some other thing that you don't notice...

i have had a problem with 5th gear for a long time. i just learned to live with it.

 

If its hard to shift when cold, might want to change the fluid, maybe the previous owner has the wrong weight in there.

 

your transmission warms up slower than your water.

... fluid check would be nice. I have no problems with my syncros. Maybe you need to adjust your shifter link, maybe that would help short of replacing your syncros over and over again.

 

I have the 2nd gear grind occasionally too (since 400 miles). The dealer can't reproduce it, therefore it doesn't exist. Personally, I think that some (most?) EVO gearboxes are POS's, and that it's the weakest point of the whole car. I guess you just have to live with it. New fluid didn't help for me either.

I have driven other EVO's with no problems at all.. so maybe it's just (bad) luck which one you get.

i need to fix my 1st gear synchro, but im afraid mitsu wont do it with all my mods
