4G63 vehicles...

i've been thinking about buying an evo for some time...but after doing some research...well basically i only make $1,200.00-$1,300.00 a month after taxes. So i can't afford one. But i was wondering what other mitsubishi's out there have a similar build in terms of power with the evo. I've been doing some research, is the "mitsubishi eclipse awd gsx" the cousin of the evo? Seems very similar: turboed, 4g63, awd, etc.

thanks!

89-93 Galant 2.0L SOHC

90-92 Galant 4wd NA

91-92 Galant VR4

89-94 Eclipse 2.0L DOHC

95-99 Eclipse 2.0L turbo 2wd and awd

that's all I can think of.. the years might be slightly off...but look for the right chassis 1st before popping the hood.

I have no idea regarding talons and lasers...

Be very wary of used turbo motors. Talons were always high maintainence cars. Unless you really know what you are doing you might be better off getting a new Ralliart or something similar.

Maybe you should post or call Road Race Engineering. They are experts in that dept. I've seen some fast Eclipse, Talons racecars from them at the track!

Or just get a Rally Car and call it a day

^ i have been saving, right now i'm about at $3,000.00. But i'm not stupid, i have 1 accident and i just turned 21 years old a week ago i'm assuming if i were to purchase a used one right now for $25,000.00, with a down payment of $3,000.00 i would still be paying 600-900 a month. Just a realistic guess...

but hey that's why i started looking into older mitsubishis then again i could easily buy a 95 twin turbo nissan 300zx for 8,000.00 from a dealership. I dunno, opinions would be great! my oz rally is fun, but just to slow for my taste.

edit: thanks for all the above posts! great info.

if you took out a loan for 6-7 years your payments would be 375-475 a month

BTW,
At 21y.o. it's that taste for speed that's going to make your insurance payments hard to swallow...

Get one!
Everything you learn from that car directly relates to the Evo. Especially the 2g's. If you can maintain and mod a DSM, Evo's are a snap. This site will teach you everything you need to know;

Mirage turbo didn't have the 4G63T, it had the 4G61T I believe. 1.8T I think.

Others:

1990-1994 Plymouth Laser RS turbo (fwd and awd, awd was only 92-94 for the laser)
1990-1998 Eagle Talon TSi (fwd and awd)

turbo talons and turbo lasers are the same thing and chassis. both use the same exact parts as the turbo models listed above. plus or minus some little things, like the i/c plumbing on the galant vr4 is a little different on it than the t/e/l's . i would recommend you getting a 1g dsm for one because they can be had for fairly cheap, no crankwalk problems, and they are just plain easier to go faster from various little things. but both have their plus and minus'. i would stay away from the risk of crankwalk on a 2g if you don't have the money to spend to fix it if it does happen. i for one never had an issue with my 2g but i can't speak for all. good luck with your purchase.
