Analog or Digital boost gauge?

Hey guys. Is there any accuracy difference between the nice digital gauges or the analog gauges? I am looking at getting some gauges but the Digital ones cost so much more and I would rather spend the money on engine parts. It's going to kill me spending almost $1K on gauges.

I was down in the footwell cleaning the pedals when I noticed a gauge stuck at the back of the centre console ( Only got the car on Saturday )...I pulled it out and it turned out to be a Defi boost gauge!...There is a cable connected to it and it lights up but does nothing else....There doesn`t seem to be anywhere to connect a link pipe ( if you need one ) so what do I need to get it going?

way to jack the thread

i was in the same dilemma awhile back. i ended up getting the digital gauges and i dont regret paying the extra money, although i had a crap load to spend anyway. if you're on a tight budget analog all the way and they are fairly accurate

if you're going fast and need to look, analog is a lot easier to read than the digital ones.

that's why they made it that way.

Digital or electronic?

I HATE digital gauges. The beauty of an analog gauge is you dont actually have to "read" it. You know exaclty whats going on by the angle of the needle. Theres almost no thinking involved. With a digital gauge, not only do you have to read and process the numbers, but the numbers are constantly changing and hard to get a good reading on....much different from a smooth needle sweep. Now some gauges like 02, etc often come digital, but i dont have much experience with them. Just dont get like digital boost, oil presure, etc.

Sorry guys, I meant to say electronic or the regular Defi D gauges. I am mainly talking about the difference between the Defi D gauges and the Defi BF gauges. Are the Defi BF gauges more accurate being electronic or are they just bling and easy to hook up.

Thanks, and sorry for not using the correct terminology .

always go with the mechanical. Can't always trust the electrical.

i've had both -- though not in the same car -- and i prefer the electronic one which I currently have. No reliability issues, so far it's been accurate, easy to route (thin wire -- no worries about kinks). The mech one I had in my 323gtx was noisy as hell. I could actually hear air going into it. But we're talking circa late 80's.

Mechanical gauges on a serious race car are usually turned so that the normal spot the needle points is vertical. This lets you pick up on slight differences from the norm with the quickest of looks. I have a digital boost gauge in the Eclipse but honestly the PSI down to a tenth was too distracting and I went with a mechanical boost gauge on the Evo.

So the Electronic gauges are the way to go. Has anybody had any experience with the autometer nexus Electronic gauges? I debating between the Autometer Nexus and the Defi BF electronic gauges since they are about the same price. The Autometer really look extremely cool with being able to choose the color and using memory cards to record data from them and such.

Wait, wait...

Are you asking if you should get an electrical vs mechanical boost gauge?
(Answer: your choice. Electrical can record data and are a little more accurate)
or

Are you asking if you should get an analog readout vs digital readout boost gauge?
(Answer: It's easier to view a needle bouncing (analog) from the corner of your view than keeping tabs at a fluctuating number(digital))
