You should be paying well below MSRP, otherwise just tell them you are going to hold off for the IX. Buying through a non-Mitsu dealer is a huge mistake. Now you are paying a commission to two dealerships instead of just one. Believe me both dealerships are going to make a cut on the deal. How do you think they pay the saleries of their employees, and manage to stay in business? For what you are going to pay for the GSR, you could be getting an MR instead. Tell your dad to drive a couple of extra miles to deal with the car dealer directly instead of going through a middle man.
Both dealerships don't make commission on the deal. The dealership that is selling it to you makes the commission. It is purchased from the other dealership with no salesman involved. What they purchase it for is between the two dealerships. It's either invoice, invoice minus destination, or in some cases, invoice minus destination and flooring (my personal favorite).

when i bought my GG MR my dealer had to locate one that was at a dealer over a 100 miles away. my dealership was planning on driving it down and i told them no so they gave me the option of going up there and picking it up myself (and they would sponser breakfast and lunch) or get a flatbed and tow it down, i picked the flatbed and i picked up the car with 8 miles on it and only paid about $34000 after taxes for abrand new MR

went to the mitsu dealer and talked to them got a price and everything. i was also looking around for other cars as we have friends that own car dealerships. while i was on an audi lot i acutally spoke to the owner and when the evo came up he said "just let me know if thats what you want ill call the owner of that dealership and he will get you the car"
so as a favor i have the owner from one major dealership calling another to get me the car. the mitsu dealer had his manager or whatever find the car in ct, white 05 with ssl package, plus its got some different pedals shift knob and the gauge package, which i didnt ask for but i guess im getting. so really as much as i would love to argue the price down and everything more because of the miles, i also have the obligation somewhat of taking the car due to it being a favor. dont get me wrong i REALLY want this car. so yea its going to have a sh*tload more miles on it than im confortable with, but hell i guess im getting a deal.
just out of curiosity ive been reading a lot and seen threads for people paying 31-32k. is this financed so youre acutally paying a lot more than that? because my deal at somehwere under 35k is a cash deal... im also getting a lot more for my jeep than i should be getting which is nice.
edit-
while i wrote all of this there were a few posts. i am assuming its in ct because i checked inventories around mass and nobody had one, and since this is all being done as a favor between dealers i should hope they are being honest with eachother. also the only reason i am not picking up the car is because i am at school in philly and am buying the car in boston 300 miles away
it is certainly not a favor for you to have them drive your brand new car around and then ovvercharge you for it. you are not getting a good deal on your trade in because they upped you evo's price. if financing is for some strange reason cheaper, then finance it, but make sure there is no early payment penalties. then pay off the loan tommorow. the first miles are the most important miles and you don't know what speeds or gears this guy is driving at. you cannot keep a brand new engine at the same speed for 150 miles as you would on the highway. it will kill it. considering you asked if this mattered, you must not know how to break an engine in. so it won't matter if you or someone else is driving it except that the dealers driver might break it in correctly (minus the highway driving). since you atre paying cash, a guy on EVOM is selling his vishnu 1+ 04 silver evo for 23,900 with 5k-6k miles. it has 300+whp from a few grand of mods. he has a child seat in the front so imagine he drives it normally occasionally. if you are paying cash, you have the money to fix it if it breaks. i would buy this one if i had the cash since it is 15k less then your new one if you include the mods. and i would have more faith that he broke in the engine properly since he mods a good amount and has something to loose by not breaking in his engine as supposed to a porter.

You can't.

You either go in there with full trust and love and let it happen the way it's supposed to happen to you at this exact moment in time in your life. Or, you can pounce all over it like a coke fiend and eye-ball their every movement, meanwhile, making everyone feel extremely comfortable.

LOL

A little upsetting, but what can you do. My car prior to my evo was an 02 mustang GT, and they had none at the dealership where I was buying the car, so they traded something they had to another dealer who had what I wanted and they drove the car from the other dealer to mine. Seems weird thought that they would be getting it from another dealer, and that another dealer would give one up. My dealer says they usually sell em before they even come off the truck. Just the price you pay for getting what you want!

That is the BIGGEST amount of BS I have heard. It won't kill it!!! There are different theories about breaking in an engine ... and none have been proven right or wrong .... but after some real life experience, I have come to the conclusion that the engines do need to be beat on after a certain period of time to properly break in. But this is only my opinion....

here's the thing, though. We've had reports of warranty denials based on improper break in. Hell, when I went to look at one the sales guy went on and on and on about how the one I was looking at only had 4 miles and that at 1500 I'd have to bring it back in for them to hook up to their diagnostics computer to make sure I hadn't redlined the engine yet.

So if the dude bringing the car back decides to show that STi a thing or two on the freeway, during our original poster's break in period, he's sunk in terms of warranty.

(FWIW I DO agree that engines need to be driven hard from mile 1 to get the best ring seal and cylinder polish.... but we won't get into that here )

I bought my EVO MR with 13mi on it, but had on ly 7mi when I looked at it on the dealer lot. Where did the extra 6mi come from? Did they joy ride my car, or get some gas for me?

well i finally talked to the dealership myself. 20k for my jeep 35 otd for the evo. it turns out it was trailered to mass from ct and the car has like 25 miles on it.
for those of you who seem to be concerned with how the car is being paid for : yes my father is buying this one. my previous two cars were paid for by me so essentially i am paying for a little over half of the money for the evo. i might be privilaged and i undestand that, but i am by no means accepting hand outs. its bad enough they pay for college ect, the least i can do is buy my cars, but my mother and father insisted that they buy this one for me because i had trouble with my last car.
he is takening care of the dealing ect because i am in philly and im buying the car in boston plain and simple.
a deposit went down on it today and when i get back to boston next friday shes all mine. end of story. thanks for the concern everyone but i guess it basically came down to a misunderstanding between the salesmen my father and me.

He let someone test drive it. When I bought my Subaru I saw the owner's kid f*cking around with a new STI in a nearby parking lot.
