Change clutch as precaution?

Hi everybody,
I was just wondering how many people changed out their factory clutch or has bought a new clutch put away to the side for when the time comes. I hear all these horror stories about clutches frying early and it kinda worries me. Coupled with the fact that I see these great deals for clutches right now. I was wondering would now be a good time to just set one to the side. Thanks for input everybody.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Seriously, the clutch isn't that bad, and they usually don't just break. You usually know ahead of time when a clutch is starting to go. That's when I'll start worrying about it. Until then, I'm gonna use what I paid for first.

Good luck.

just don't fry the clutch and you'll save alot of money...I have 26000 miles and clutch is strong still...my friend has over 50000 and clutch is still strong...as long as you know how to launch and drive the car your clutch should last...use that money for other goodies

I would wait...however if your income isnt enormous then you may just want to have some money set aside for whatever may happen...

Waiting until it starts to go is totally fine, but I will say that as soon as you start to notice any slipping jump right on a clutch and be ready. My stocker was fine, but started slipping and within 2 weeks was shot.

It's funny I agree with everyone here and I also have had a problem. My first clutch was gone in the first 7000 miles and that was freeway driving from Salem to Portland after 2 months I was out my first clutch and 5000 miles where put on just going back and forth to work. My second clutch which I've but 15000 miles of freeway driving and 6000 miles of around the town and it's still stronger then the first ever felt. On top of that the car was new never test drove it went from the the container to me.

First stock clutch gone at 10k (my dumb *** fault) and 2nd stock clutch is lasting til this day at 57k. (47k on 2nd stock clutch) This is with spirited driving, a couple of launches and 1 autox. I take my car to atleast 6k everyday.

Yea just wondering. Appreciate the input. I was just wondering it seems from people responses that the stock clutch was just swapped for a stock clutch. So basically most people just cover it under warranty? I mean I know my clutch is ok. So I'm guessing nobody changes for a precaution judging by responses. Thanks.

see if your going to mod the car and make some serious power then i would change it just to get it out the way but if your going to keep it below 300 whp then i would just keep the stock clutch. Me personally i had to change my clutch because it was slipping due to some launches i did that i slipped to much but you live and learn. now i have almost 400 whp and act is working like a charm =)

Yea. I dont plan on some huge power numbers. Just the basic bolt ons. So I dont think Ill need to change it for that reason. And I was planning on ACT if I needed to. Thanks for input.

change it when you need to, or when its an available option. like me i plan on changing it when i get the lsd put in, or when i get a clutch put in ill also put in the lsd. either way works. ive been complainin about the grab height of the clutch to the stealership for a long time since it grabs at the top, the mechanic said its fine and that was just 1500 miles ago, then last time i brought it in a different mechanic said it was goin, but he drove worse than me so i dont know if i believe him, really jerky. clutch has 26000 miles, other than the high engagement of the pedal it feels fine, but leaves very little play, but doesnt really feel like its slipping at full throttle once my foot is off the clutch. i plan to buy a clutch as soon as i decide what to buy. hopefully i can save up enough in the next few months. and hopefully my clutch doesnt go before then.

I think my stock clutch is starting to go. 13K on the clock, never been to the track. I noticed chatter when cold about a month ago. Now it just doesn't feel right, the rpms don't rise when letting the pedal out so I don't know if it's slipping but it just doesn't "bite" like it used to. Am I right? Is it starting to go?
