In my defence it was on like a 10 mile stretch on the 40 at like 4PM on a Friday, there was nobody on the road. Now we both have a court date in June. My questions are:
Has anyone else gotten a ticket for over 100 in CA?
IF so, what can I expect?
CA DMV website says max for first offence is $500 fine, possible 30 day licenses suspension, and of course points. Any body been through this already?
And lastly, would you try to get a lawyer to try to talk to ticket down to just a big fine and traffic school? Im really trying to avoid the points so my insurance doesn't go through the roof!
On the other hand..it was a huge wake up call and now I only do my speeding on the track! So lesson learned I guess.
Thanks guys.....

Well guys, good news about the tickets. My friend who got the same ticket I did (remember we got pulled over at the same time)...went down to the court house In Needles, CA where we are suppose to be on June 27th this past Friday. He spoke with the court clerk that handles all the money from fines and she said that since our tickets ONLY say speeding, that the worse that could happen would be a $600 fine since we both have clean records. Then she said he would have to go to the DMV in Needles to find out about points. So he went....and they said the max would be 1 point! That's not bad for 115mph in a 70mph! On top of that we can still request that the judge let us take driving school since it's our first offence! PHEWWWW lol, that's a load off my mind!

In CA an infraction is an infraction, a misdemenor is a misdemenor and a felony is a felony. Speeding in excess of 100 will cost you big time (ask my son). Traffic school will hide part of it and you may be able to bargain with your insurance if you have been a customer for a while and have a previously clean record (my personal experience here). If it is just a set fine you can pay it by calling the court house. If it must go before a judge all bets are off. Good luck and keep us informed.
best of luck to you. here in sc, i have been told on numerous occasions that if you get pulled for "street racing" which the cops here believe is accelerating too quickly from a light, you loose you license, car is impounded and you get jail time. but that is the sever punishment. now last time i went thru virgina the speed limit there was like 10 higher than sc. our highways are 65 there it was like 75, and i didnt know they had a 15 or more felony. back a few years ago i got pulled for 114 in a 45 in my integra. 6 points $500 somthing in a fine. was really polite to the cop, denied the hell out of racing the kid behind me, and still i do not ammite to it, and come court day the cop dropped my ticket to 2 points and $50. the other kid's was more because he didnt have his license on him. but like i said best of luck to you
I was pulled over once about 3 years ago for "racing" on a highway, the guy I'm supposedly racing with was about 20-30 yard in front of me!!! I was only over the limit for about 5-10 miles, but I guess the cop was in a bad mood, yelled at me while dropping saliva on the hood of my brand new car when I asked why he pulled me over. Racing on the street is a misdemeanor charge here in Fla., I work for the government and didn't want anything on my record so I hired a lawyer who's recommanded by a friend, he got me off with no point and I only had to do about 3 hours of online traffic school, I had to pay him $400 plus another $150 of court fees. So definitely get a lawyer, but before that ask around to see if any of your friends have any connections with one, that way you'll most likely get off a lot more easier and possibly won't be overcharged by the lawyer.
here's my rundown.
clocked at 125 on the 5 freeway near anaheim.
tried to say that i was swerving in an out of traffic an racing my fren who he didnt pull over.
he wrote in speeding at 125 blah blah, had an out of state license at that time cuz i didnt kno had to switch it either. so they impounded my car.
judge took my side on the out of state license saying hawaii is part of the states so if u can drive there i can drive here but he said to jus get a cali license anyway.
for the speeding got fined $400 somethin, forget exact price an i opted to take a level 2 traffic school for like $200+ more so i ended up paying over $600 with no points to my record.
