How do you reply to statements like "The Evo is just a glorified Lancer?"

I work with a lot of Midwest V8 lovers, I catch all kinds of "Jap Junk" Hell. I think I read somewhere that explained that the EVO was First then the Lancer?

What is the correct way to put these Haters in place?

It does not bother me, I relize their ignorrants, I just need to find the reference I stumbled on that explained that the Evolution was never a economy car that was simply "Beefed up" guess I will try to find it. any help is gladly accepted.

 

The Evolution is its own entity. It just happens to be CURRENTLY based off the Lancer platform. Originally, it was on a galant platform. They didn't just take a Lancer and decide to beef it up and call it an Evolution. That's what Dodge did with the Neon and Chevy with the Cavalier, except that Chevy made a style/name change before coming out with the Cobalt SS.

 

Is the base Lancer platform produced at a different plant? The Body (shell) or platform must be different unless Mitsu modifies the same platform the base lancer uses.
