HELP please. CEL p0101

So lately out of nowhere my car has started acting funny. like it hits a huge brick wall at 4500 rpm, and throwing the p0101 code. It happened about a week agoo and i looked it up on here and it seems that not that many people have had this problem. So i took what information i could gather and did what was suggested. I cleaned the MAF sensor, and it went away for about 3 days, then it comes back with a vengence again. it only happens about once per time that i drive my car. I checked all my IC pipes, and all of them are tight. I have the buschur intake, and have been running it for a little over a year now with no problems.

does anyone have any suggestions what it might be? dis my MAF sensor screwed up or could the cause be something else? im pretty much lost right now.

thanks.

It's "System too lean" code. I got it few months ago and a good tuner here in SoCal (Scott Gray) got risk of it for me by "straighten out" some fuel/timing somewhere in the lower RPM using EcuFlash (it rocks).
I'm pretty sure someone here will cheme in to help you out.

thats incorrect. the code you are referring to is po171, i had the same issue in wich scot gray also fixed.

the po101 is Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance Problem. hopefully someone knowledgable will chime in so you guys can get this problem resolved!

Replace MAF, or inspect the honeycomb.

Are you running a piggyback such as SAFC?

I wouldn't jump to replacing the MAF just yet. You stated that after a cleaning, you were able to go about 3 days without the CEL throwing again. If it was a bad MAF, cleaning it wouldn't have changed much, unless a resistor is going bad inside the MAF. TTP Engineering has a good point, do you or are you running a piggy back? These are notorius for cuasing similar problems. I had a vafc in my civic and at around 4500k it was like a rev limiter kicked in and shut down my car. Give us a little more info on your set-up.

Are we talking about Evildylan or me since I bumped this old thread? I'm on stock ECU, so far the code hasn't come back in 2 days and I didn't do anything but erase it.

Running on a stock ECU set-up (no piggy back) and i'm guessing you haven't spliced into your ECU for any reason, I would recommend re-cleaning the MAF with carb cleaner and a q-tip. Be very, very, very careful as the points in the MAF are delicate. Next I would recommend checking the filter, make sure there are absolutely no obstructions inside the air filter, creating a distortion in air flow. (The reason for this was an old nissan I had, I installed an aftermarket air filter and the opening of the air filter wasn't as big as the opening to the MAF. The a/f was creating a pocket, causing the air to rush into the intake pipe, but blocking the MAF from reading the volume of air that was actually entering the pipe. Hope that made sense)

I would try/check this first. If the code returns again, and your MAF plug is securely connected and there are no obstructions in the path of the air flow to the MAF, then I would schedule a service call, as the worst case scenario may be your MAF is on its way out.

I just erased the code and it hasn't come back in 3 days so maybe it was just a fluke?

i have seen this a few times on cars that have a oil impregnated air filter, such as a K&N that have been cleaned and too much oil put in them, so cleaning will fix temporarily but will happen again.....not saying this is your problem but something to look at
