the long and the short of it is is that you got pulled over for 5mph over... which is lame to begin with. but the fact that the cop only gave you a seat belt ticket is a decent deal considering youre young. im only 20 so im sure i go through the same sh*t when ive been pulled so consider yourself lucky you got a $125 break. pay the ticket and forget about it. going to court just doesnt sound like its worth they time but hey im really lazy. good luck

I'd go to court. You should be able to at least get it pleaded down to a lesser offence or at least get a "supervision" or drivers class as an option. 5mph does suck, but I've heard of some suburbs who would do it for 1mph over in my area.

If your state follows the uniform vehicle code then it is frowned upon to give a ticket for anything less than 5 mph over.

Pleading to lesser charges in this case especially if there where worker in the vicinity is might be tough. Around here drag racing, speeding in a school zones, speeding in work zones are really hard to get out of with out points and a hefty fine. Getting a laywer might help but I would no bank on it.

my first ticket was 48 in the 45

The judge said the cop wasted both mine and his time and dismissed it

In Ohio/Ky, the court will laugh @ you if you try to contest the ticket. You may be able to get a fine reduction, but the ticket will stand. Ohio/Ky double the fines in workzones.
The fact it's a workzone kinda screwed ya. States are not messing around, when they say 50mph, they mean 50mph...gotta keep the workers safe

I'd consider myself lucky with a seat belt fine and call it a day

Wait- did he ticket you for a seatblet infraction, or a speeding infraction? If it's speeding then you should probably at least talk to a judge- in some states you can get tickets deferred. If you don't get in trouble for the next year (or however long) it doesn't get reported. In WA you get to do this once every 7 years. If there is no deferrment you can ask for leniency since it was only 5 over- you can claim that your speedo said 50 and that you had recently installed new tires (different rolling radii effect your actual speed vs. speedo reading since the speedo uses tire RPM to determine speed).

If it's just the seatbelt thing, and isn't written up as a moving violation, pay the damn ticket and be grateful that's all it was.

He can plead to a lesser charge. He'll probaby have to pay a larger fine, but it sure beats paying it in insurance. The work zone thing may make it difficult to plea down though.

You are not looking at it like a judge will. They are going to say "what was the speed limit" and if you say anything over 50 mph you are admitting to speeding. 1mph-100mph over it is still technically against the law.

I would go in and talk to the prosecutor and tell him, I am sorry I was trying to drive slow. I don't have a certified speedometer and I thought I was doing the speed limit or very close to.

It won't get dropped, but it may get bumped to a non moving so you won't get points.

Was their people out working?

Can a mod close this? The guy just got a ticket for a seatbelt problem, not speeding, so it's pointless to keep adding posts advising him how to handle a speeding in a construction zone ticket.
