Chalk this ticket up for the car....
hey folks it just doesn't matter. If an officer wants to pull you over he will. There's no lesson learned here, that guy was just being an a$$.
I was a policeman a long time ago. Believe me there's much better things to do rather than pulling anyone over for less than 15 over the limit on the highway. Most cops "off the record" will tell you it's okay to do 10 over on the highway.
Most of you seem to think that cops don't know what goes on after a ticket, the points against insurance, the time spent fighting it if you do, going to some lame class, etc. This all adds up to lots of time and money spent by you. Cops know this, and any cop that puts you through that without provocation or justification is being a dick.
There could be more to this story but based on what was said in the original post, being ticketed for 72 in a 65 is lame.

I would have set the cruise control to 65 (If I had one). Let him get miles away. You are driving an import with a big wing. To him you are the #1 target on the road. Yeah he was being a jerk, but they can give you one for 1mph over if they want to because they are the law. It sucks, but it's true.
My GF is a california highway patrol officer (AAA with a badge, don't tell her I said that) They regularly drive over the speed limit just to keep the traffic flowing. People tend to slow down when they see a cop, even if they're not speeding. BTW if your going the speed limit its ok to pass a cop, even they get stuck behind slow traffic!
i got slammed coming back to philly from pittsburgh. i learned the hard way that the evo can be a target, whether it is moving or not, for cops. you just have to watch out. my advice, invest in a decent radar detector to prevent from getting caught in speed traps and don't ever follow or pass a state trooper. no matter how fast or slow they are traveling.
