Chalk this ticket up for the car....

Ever hear of someone getting stopped for doing 62 in a 55? How about 72 in a 65? Well, it does happen...in PA anyway. While traveling from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh for a wedding, I took the turnpike and got stopped near Bedford which is in the middle of the state. It was me, my girlfriend, and another friend in the car.

It gets better. There was a cop in front on me in the passing lane. I followed him for about 3 or 4 miles and was doing between 70 and 75. He was setting the pace so I just followed. I probably never even hit 75, but anyway after a few miles he slows down and lets me pass. He then follows me for a few miles, and all of a sudden turns on his lights. So he tickets me for a "steady 72 in a 65". As he was taking my info, I never really expected anything to come of it. I just thought he was looking for a reason to stop me and check me out. But then he actually wrote me up for a ticket. I was shocked I didn't know what to say. He was the one that set the pace, and we were "barely" going by anyone. And I very slowly passed him even when he slowed down. What BS...

So $130 later and I am on my way. 2 miles down the road I am going about 70 and people can't wait to get by me. What a joke. Like he had nothing else better to do than go after someone for doing 7 mph over the limit?

So I'll thank the car for that one....I was tempted to say "Why don't you give me a ticket for really speeding....but then you would never catch me"

Still love the car....just wish it would get treated fairly....

I feel your pain -- prior to ever owning an Evo I had some major BS Tickets -- I've been pulled over 4 times in one week once -- 67 in a 65, 66 in a 65, etc, etc -- this was on my way to work then -- these cops had nothing to do.

I took every one of those tickets to court and won ...just an amazing waste of time!

Just think of it as lucky since you weren't caught going your fastest I'm sure...I got caught going 44 in a 25. My $165 ticket is a walk in the park considering the pace I have gone during those nice highway sprints. I don't reccomend it at all but those quick jaunts up to ?$# MPH are always fun. It just sucks when it's out of state because they know that you will pay it in full to avoid taking time off to travel out of state again.

You have a car like this, they know you speed at some point or another!

The lesson of the day is... Never pass a cop. Even if he's doing 10 under in the other lane, I still won't pass him. I won't give him the chance to even get behind me.

are you serious first off even if he(the statie) is speeding you dont follow, and on top of that if he slows down and you pass him why wouldnt he pull you over for speeding, granted i dont agree but they can drive as fast as they want if you wanna follow him expect to get a ticket. i stay as far away from them as possiable. the ticket sux but should not have passed him or even followed for matter..

So, you got a speeding ticket for speeding and you're complaining? If the posted limit is 65 and you are doing anything over that then why complain when you get a ticket? I ****ing hate cops (mobile revenue collectors) but it's not like you weren't actually speeding.

technically you were speeding. never go above or below 5 mph of the speed limit when a cop is around. so in a 65 zone, you can go 70, not 71 or 72. in a 45 zone, you can go 50 mph, but nothing above it. to be extra careful, since im technically speeding doing 5 over, i just stick to the speed limit right on the mark. If he was waiting for you on the side of the and your going 72, then i dont blame you, but he was following you for 2 or 3 miles..im not too suprised that he pulled you over tho if he followed you that long and you were still going 72. I agree it is a bs ticket for going 72, but he was basically giving you a chance to drop your speed as it seems. Maybe he thought that you were trying to be the better man by speeding in front of him or something, dunno. fight it and see what happens

I passed cops all the time in my Eclipse. One was doing 60 in a 65 with a LONG trail of cars behind him. I wasn't having it. I passed the dude going 65, just waiting for him to pull me over. I even looked over at him like a retard when i went by....He never pulled me over. Once I had a couple miles on him, I jumped back up to 70. He was running RADAR the whole time.

Stupid cops trying to **** someone off enough to do something stupid.

Well, I was speeding as well as everyone else. The cars in the right lane were going about 70 or just under, and I was doing just over 70, barely passing them. I know I was speeding, but was basically over a tad of what the rest of the ttraffic was going.

I am always very careful and drive slower than most people who have an Evo. I have probably passed about 4 or 5 cops in my Evo, and no one has ever bothered me.

I would of had to fight that one. If anything he should have wrote himself a speeding ticket as well. Cops have to follow all traffic laws the same has you unless they have thier lights on.

Don't follow a cop for too long too closely especially when you (as well as the cop) are going above speed limit. Most ppl know the cop can give you a speeding ticket by follow you andwatch your speed.......they can do the same thing even they are IN FRONT of you (just like in this case). The cop can also pick the car they like in the whole "speeding group" just another disadvantage of driving a sport car with big wing.

i got to go with everyone on this one. passing a cop is a huge mistake. last summer i was following a mass statie in my jeep making sure to stay far enough behind, but as he went faster so did i. next thing i know he cuts into the middle lane slams his brakes pulls behind me and lights it up. 170 bucks just because he decided he was done having me follow him. so yea i agree with everyone, dont pass cops its asking for trouble espeically with a shopping cart handle on our trunks

All these experiences will differ from State to State. In general when driving on the interstate/major highways, I would steer clear of State Troopers. They only do traffic related enforcement, so they'll be the most sensitive to "pacing EVO's" and those going 1 mph over the speed limit. You may be able to sneak by doing 5 over, or pacing a City Cop or County Deputy becuase they use the Interstate/major highways to respond to more important calls. They might care less if an EVO is pacing them going 5 over, beucase they're in route to something more important and won't bother with a traffic stop.

On the flip side, be carefull of small towns or places with low call volume. Bored police, mean they'll start fishing. No license plate, 1 mph over, non reflecting license plate, no seatbelt, etc etc are those "dumb violations", but they ARE violations. Officers are typically looking for big offensive like DUI/DWI, drugs etc, but find those offenders by utilizing the tiny little infractions to pull you over. Some Officers are P#$% and enjoy the power, but most officers would rather arrest a DUI or get some drugs off the street then hassle someone speeding. (obviously my opinion). Why do they write the 5 mph "bull SH#$" ticket you ask? Well, when you fight your DUI or other arrestable offense the most common item the Defense will focus on is the "Reason for the stop." If there is any hint of an unlawfull stop by the officers part, anything found after the fact can be thrown out. Many officers will stop and write people for those dumb offenses to create history. That way when an a judge asks the officer why they pulled the DUI over for a license plate violation, the officer can refere to his/her traffic history and show that "I routinely pull subjects over and cite for license plate violation, and this particular violator happened to be drunk." That way they aren't picking on you, when everyone gets a ticket. I don't think that makes anyone feel better, but shows a reason for giving you a "dumb" ticket.

General rule......Don't speed even if its 1 mph over when an officer is around. They do give people a chance to slow down by making thier presence known. They are allowed to pace you to determine your speed, even if your going 10 over. If you are rolling around with some questionable mods, be mindfull of your surroundings and tuck yourself away in the far right lane behind a semi or something. In regards to you and your EVO, you can be outstanding, but don't Stand out.

My opinion........
