My dealer still doesn't know what color the car he is expecting is, or what features it has. 
He is also saying he doesn't expect that first car to arrive until April. Makes me a little leary about the dealer since I haven't bought a car from him before. Is this unusual at this point?

Hi,
I recieved A vin number today. Dealer called to let me know they had a vin but made it clear that is was A vin number and not specific to my ordered car.
The VIN was supplied to aid getting insurance quotes only. Anyone else have the same understanding from their dealers?

Coming in April is fine with me. I'm just a little concerned that he still knows so little about when the car is coming, and I don't have any real info from him. He's still promising MSRP though which is good.

I ask the dealer for a VIN for insurance purposes last week. My car is in the second wave and the VIN is not available ..... so the dealer gave a "generic" number to use for an insurance quote only. I expect my car late March.
Again, they made it quite clear it is a "generic" number and not for the car I ordered. Here is the VIN:
