My first time on track at Putnam Park in my stock 03 evo I was lapping quite a bit quicker than a guy in a stock s2000 who had done the Bondurant school. I'm a fan of the S2k, but the Evo is a better performer on track stock for stock hands down.

1/4 mile times are largely irrelevant. A mildly tuned camaro would kill my evo at the dragstrip but would fly off the track at the first corner... I say the cars are closely matched enough that it comes down to the driver. Since both cars take a different style to go fast, it's hard to say which would be faster with the same driver. Some drivers are faster in rwd and others are better in awd. I think for an average driver the Evo is certainly faster, since it's easier to drive fast.

My $.02 on this S2K vs Evo discussion. I'm only talking about auto-x here, because that's all I've done outside of drag racing, and we know that's no contest...

At my first auto-x, there were 5 Evos and 8 S2000s. Here is the breakdown of times:

CAR Place Time
S2k 2nd 37.86 (N/A w/R compound tires...best driver in the club)
Evo 5th 38.50 (me with S-AFC/Cat-back - 1st auto-x, stock tires)
S2k 13th 40.17
Evo 14th 40.37 (03 - bolt-ons + cams - 1st auto-x, stock tires)
S2k 15th 40.40
S2k 19th 40.63
S2k T-26th 41.21
Evo T-26th 41.21
Evo 33rd 41.35 (bone stock MR)
S2k 48th 42.72
Evo 60th 43.80 (03 - bolt-ons w/cams and original, bald Advans)
S2k 72nd 45.71
S2k 74th 46.24

I know 3 of these S2Ks were supercharged, with one having a huge FMIC, but I don't know any other details about the ones BEHIND me, since I wasn't paying attention to them. The fastest S2k was driven by one of the club organizers who places top 3 in every event, even though this S2K was basically stock with just race tires. The next fastest S2k was another event organizer who is a very good driver, but I don't know what mods his had.

I was the fastest Evo by almost 2 seconds despite the street tires and stock suspension/brakes and only a few basic bolt-ons. I think since my car was much newer (~5k miles), I was able to handle, grip, and brake better than the 03s who were making a good 50-60 more whp (probably). They had too much power it seemed, because they were lighting up the tires all over the place.

This information is not conclusive for or against either car, but I think it shows that BOTH cars are VERY capable in the auto-x. This list also shows that a bad driver can make ANY car look slow...

hands down evo, s2000 great car, but not in the same class. i ate one hard on delaware ave in philly, then a srt4, then a r32. all nice cars, they just get owned.

what i would like someone here to race (not me) would be the Dodge Pickup SRT-10, I hear that thing is sick..

now this is the question you shoulda asked...

what would win at the track:

Ford Lightning

Dodge SRT-10

Too many variables. Stock for stock, I'd say it's all driver.

An S2k at a Quarter Mile only does 14.2 with Dual After Market Exhaust from what i could see and probably intake headers...basic Mods....Yellow, a black one hit 14.5 looked stock...my evo did 13.7 and i wasnt boosting stock psi...it was 17 with a little fuel cut around 5 to 6k rpms every gear.

wahh... The evo makes people a better driver. Unless it was incredible awesome driver against first timer it doesnt stand a chance.

Well, since I used to own an S2k and now own an Evo, I would say my opinion holds more weight than pretty much everyone else on this thread. Also, I am not some Evo humping fan boy like pretty much all of this forum is so I dont' follow the motto "THE EVO CAN NEVAR LOSE!!!111". Is the S2k slower stock for stock. Yes, but it would surprise the **** out of you how close the race would be from a roll.....it sure as hell surprised me. My first autox ever in my S2k was at a PCA even in Atl. There were 5+ Evo's there and every one of them was modded. Anywhere from basic bolt ons, to cams, to chassis stiffening, etc...but they were all on street tires. One of the drivers of the Evo was a VERY seasoned autox driver and she came over from Al to compete in the event. I beat every Evo there in my bone stock S2k, w/ stock alignment and stock tires. Note, I also beat every other S2k there other than a buddy of mine who competes nationally and had R compounds(There were 5 other S2ks). It will depend on the type of track. If the track is tight and I were driving my Evo or my old S2k, I would put every bit of my money on my S2k. Why? BALANCE. The evo pushes and could only wish it had the turn-in of an S2k. The car can be placed perfectly and everything is razor sharp making it somewhat difficult to drive fast at first, but once you have become used to the car, they can be blazingly fast. Overall grip between the two cars is pretty much the same stock and that will offer no huge advantage to either ride. The Evo does have better brakes, but like I said, in a tight track, you aren't braking from 100+mph. When the mods start flowing, it is easy to out muscle the S2k. However, any car can be made fast, so the comparison needs to be between stock cars. Again, I have owned both and I have raced both multiple times. Have your opinion if you want, but these are the facts that I have experienced, not what some magazine said, or what your friends, brothers, uncles, cousins told you.

Most Evo folks on this forum are 1/4 mile racers and won't understand what you're talking about. Oh, did I forget, Evo can nevar lose!!!

you have to understand... the evo comes equiped with a stock auto drive button. When turned on the car is foolishly easy to drive fast. On the other hand an s2000 needs to be driven very well in order to extract maximum performance out of it. If you fall out of vtec a few times its over. Plus one needs to know a lot more about weight transfer and propper braking techniques with an s2000. The evo is simply super easy to drive. It makes the drivers look a lot better than they are trust me i track mine all the time.
s2000 is a fun car though, and probably would be more fun to track stock for stock as it would be so much more difficult to put up fast consistent times.
