I have been buying parts for my evo for the past month and they have been sitting in my garage for too long! My car has a full turboback exhaust on it as of right now. I will be getting my 680cc injectors, hks evc boost controller, hks 272 cams, safc2, walbro 255lph fuel pump, defi bf series boost gauge, and arp headstuds installed sometime this week. I have a few questions before parts start going on the car.....
1st- would it be smart for me to buy a stronger headgasket while the head is off? or is it not needed?
2nd- how much boost are people running with this setup on 93oct. pump gas? I was hoping for 21psi on pump and maybe 24-25 on race gas?..
3rd- what sort of times are people running with this kind of setup? I know one of my friends ran a 11.8 on race gas at 25psi i think with almost exact same setup.
If you think i should buy anything else before the parts go in please let me kno. I dont think i want to wait any longer......im very impatient!
thanks for the help.

to answer your questions:
1) i would think of it as cheap insurance and less hassle to just put the stronger head gasket on. since you are basically going to be able to do it no problem having the head very close to being off of the short block. it would take you a matter of about 5 - 10 minutes to do it. better safe then sorry.
2)you should be able to run 21 psi on pump but i wouldn't for a long time. i personally would stick with the stock 19 psi for everyday driving and bump it up if you need to or when you put race gas in.
3)it is all up to the driver and the track conditions. i really can't help you with that because i don't have the slightest clue as to what it could run.
hope this helps
Jeff

if you are tuning you can safely run 21-22 psi. but you have to tune and log everything and make sure there's no knock events and that your timing curve is steadily increasing to redline... if you can't do this yerself a shop can do it for you i'm sure. if not that... then wait for al or buschur to come to your area cuz you seem to be semi close...
i say trade yer 680s for 720 so you can get more outta yer safc... and you'll be a 12 second car still with all that stuff...

on race gas you might have a chance... but it's ruff.... i don't know that much about drag racing... but it takes a bit to get to 11... like buschur all stages plus that alcohol... shrugs...
btw... you heard wrong... 720 is most common in the dsm community and with the socal evo community.

I'd rather put it as using the stock headgasket as the cheap insurance. Meaning I'd rather blow that out than the alternative.. Use the old saying, if it isn't broke don't fix it. The head studs will save you from losing the stocker a bit longer but if something really goes wrong it'd be better to replace the gasket and not the short block.
