In the Boroughs, City or whatever you cannot plea bargain (nassau county you can and also yonkers). It is all or nothing, either you were speeding or you were not. If you have a NY licence or have out of state but drive in NY frequently beware. You can lose your license for 6 months if you are convicted of speeding in the state of new york 3 times within a span of 18 months, it is automatic.

My advice to you, find a good attorney, who knows the ropes or who used to work in the system. Then check to see what is going on techincally, sometimes the police do not calibrate, do not write the ticket correctly, or do not show up multiple times for court. You are lucky it wasn't a highway patrol officer as it makes it very likely he won't handle himself or his evidence correctly in a situation like this. Also it is very likely that you can get off based on the fact that you were paced and not ticketed based on radar. Did you know the cop has to follow you for at least a certain distance? Did he cover the distance while behind you? Can he prove it.
Get a lawyer, never just pay a ticket like that in NY city.

Heck no...You always fight the ticket...You can fight via mail, if that fails you can request a trial de novo (court appearance)...You have 2 opportunities for the cop to mess up or not show, in either case you win.

Ticketassassin

This website is for Cali, but should give you some tips applicable to the people's republic of NYC...You may want to contact them or research a similar website offering advice for PRNYC.

I fought and won my last three moving violations due to officer error and/or no-show by officer.

Are you sure about that ??

......It happened to me twice in the past few years and I just got my ticket dismissed last year because the cop who issued the ticket made a mistake in the court. The Police has responsibility to present the case 100% correct to the judge and if they make any important mistake....the judge will favor the defendent and dismiss the case.

Is it that hard?

If you spend $600, you MIGHT get fines/points reduced. If you don't spend the $600, you're guaranteed to get all the fines and points.

So is it worth it to you to gamble the $600?
