'05, 3k miles, 5th gear grind.

Just picked up my 2005 yesterday with 2200 miles and a 5th gear grind problem. I thought mitsu had fixed that problem in 2003? This should be covered under warranty..right?

Although I only experienced 5th gear grind once and my Evo is an '03 the metal underhood bushings eliminated any notchiness when going from 4th to 5th.

The only time mine dosnt grind, is when you shift VERY VERY slowly.

i agree with DCSilvrEvo and SIC SIK SIX, take it back to the dealership and tell them that you have a fifth gear grind. they should fix it with no questions asked because you say you just picked it up. they should have sold you a car with no problems. does it have any mods? if not then tell them you want it to be fixed under warrenty. mine does the same thing but at high rpm's like when doing a 4th gear highway pull. only then does it grind on me. hope this helps.

Well, I would take it back to the dealer I bought it from, if it werent 1,000 miles away. Im the 2nd owner and should be entitled to a 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain/ bumper to bumper warranty. The only thing im worried about is taking it to the "local" dealer (50 miles away) because I strung them on for a couple weeks letting them think I was going to buy their Evo. Now when I pull in with a different Evo and theirs still on the lot, I think they might be pissed.

The car is completely stock, other than some vinyl that came on the car. That will be coming off as soon as a get a few minutes to take it off.

ah yes, the classic 5th grind...Syncros need to be replaced..it's been done before in 03's under warrenty. While you're at it, you can also replace the clutch if you need one.

The dealer is saying that it is probally caused by abuse. I dont even want them to touch it if they are going to charge me $2000+ to fix it. Is there a way for them to gaurantee the warranty before they rack up $500 in labor?

i have an 05 but never see this kind of problem... about 13000 miles on the meter now

maybe i dont know what you are talking about... is it when you shift it doesn't actually go into the gear, instead the stick hit some grinding flywheel? and you have to reshift it again?

you dont have to take it in to the same dealership you bought it from. any authorized mitsu dealership near you will do warranty work.
