convince me otherwise

hello all I currently own and 03 evo that i have struggled with since purchase. Mitsu voided warranty and a beaten on evo that i have had to pay and struggle to fix. I am seriously considering trading in for an sti. I really love the nicer interior and 6spd standard. oh and not to mention the mod friendly dealer well just wanted to get feedback from all you guys about STI and what i have said.thanks

the sti's a kickass car, but they are nowhere near as mod friendly as an evo, a buddy of mine has pretty much everything done to his sti, he's got a perrin fmic, some sort of ems, sbr gt13, 880cc injectors and some other **** and is still running the same as when he was just at an intake and exhaust which was a 12.5@108-9, and a two buddy's with 05's with just an exhaust, safc, and drop in filter are running 12.0-2 @ 114-112, what you should do is just get an 05

hey i totally feel u man, the 03 Evos arent the best Evos to own theyre actually the WORST IMO and i have one too, of course I have decided to get rid of it within 1/2 a year and get a Supra as it suits my needs a lot better and i stil lthink the Evo is an amazing car and so is an STi and i was having thoughts about the STi, but that fugly hood scoop, crappy seats and super tight engine bay didnt do it for me. Also, STi's dont have great tuners like the Evo's tuners. Remember what happened at WRX VS EVo Shootout a while back?

yeah i am a little unhappy with the tunabilty of the sti vs the evo thats one thing thats makes me wanna stay evo but im a vishnu guy so ill go thier way with an sti too reall after a tbe and em i would prolly just leave it alone enginewise and go for rims and suspension upgrades . i dont really wanna go crazy with tuning and other small things so with just those to mods they are very close thanks for the replies

Why not wait for the IX, I'm having a feeling that Mitsubishi might lighten up a little on the unfriendly attitude towards modifications and Subaru might tighten up. The STi is a very good car, but I just think you'll be unhappy in the long run with it and eventually (sooner than later) get rid of it for something else. Once you had a taste of the dark side, it's hard to leave.

hate to throw this out there but i just cant see trading an 03 for an 05. its more or less the same car so where is the fun in that? an sti is great but why not something else besides the evo/sti? just an idea.... on the otherhand you cant go wrong with the 05, or even waiting for a 9 isnt a bad idea either. at least they look a little different.

If you can afford it I would go with the IX. The new head with MIVEC should be pretty interesting not to mention the turbo is even better than the 05 EVO's and the other plus is the tranny has revised gear ratios. If you can't afford that go for a 05 because dealers will be trying to get rid of them before the IX gets here.. I sold my 2003 EVO for an MR and have never been happier it was a tough choice for me but it made a huge difference and I will never regret it.. Good luck in whatever you decide and I know that you will make the right choice.

Sounds like you just got a Monday morning built car. My 03 has been solid. It has a few squeeks and rattles (compared to my e46 M3) and the materials are cheaper but nothing is as toss-able as the EVO. A Supra? You must be kidding.

I could care less about the 6 speed tranny. I have the 10.5 hotside and a Quaife diff so I don't feel like the MR offers anything above a slightly modded 03. The suspension is more supple but the ride height sucks so you gotta put springs or coils on anyway.

If your car is that jacked up you can always pick up a low mile 03 on the cheap. I paid $26.5 new for my 8 from a Mitsu dealer. It had 600 miles but it was never titled and they wanted to get rid of it.

yeah my main problem is that i think the previous owner raced the car and left it beat up when he traded it in ie. had a boost controller and didnt reconnect the stock line before giving it back and it took me two months two figure that problem out and when my clutch went i found out it was an exedy twin 6puck race disk. ive almost got it taking car of after this thursdays trip to mitsu i should be boosting 18 lbs so that will be nice

Your problem wasn't the Evo. It was buying a used Evo and not know what the heck was done to it (nothing you could have helped).
