I'm pretty sure they should be able to remove the cross-threaded lugnuts w/ a breaker bar. You can generate over 500 ft-lbs of leverage w/ a pipe and breaker bar. If that doesn't crack loose the lugnuts, it should be enough to break the stud off.

Thumbs up Discount Tire

For everyone's info, I have had really good dealings with discount tire. Their policy is to hand put on the lug nuts then torque stick to get it close then use a torque wrench for the final tightening. They have been very professional everytime that I have gone there. The only thing that I did not like is that they tighten by the diameter of the lug nut, not the manufacturer's specs. But if you knew the specs, I bet they would accomodate.

Also, they say they will beat anybody else's prices.

Problem solved! When I went to pick up my car they had all the studs broken...which made for an interesting and involved process of getting it onto the flatbed tow truck and back off, but the driver was a pro & never dropped or damaged her. The dealer fixed her right up with new lugs & nuts, & she's as good as new. The kid that cross-threaded the lugs learned a valuable lesson and it's doubtful he'll make the same mitake twice. It was a boner move for sure, but the tire place more than made up for their mistake with a free rental car for the whole weekend, free towing, and free repair at the dealer (not his brother Joe or some shade tree mechanic, etc.). They even supplied a person on their time to help me pick up & drop off my rental since the only place that was open at the time was the airport, clear across town. They really couldn't have been more helpful and they've earned my return business. I have a feeling if this same thing happened at any other tire shop, I would have been renting a car on my own dime at the very least.

Thanks for all the input!

good luck, it's so hard to find a reputable shop

my local tire shop tried to screw me once by telling me my studs were spinning in the hub

the look on their face after i took my torque wrench and got all of them to torque to spec

what a scam
